in august i hired a company to help fix my credit. the company was "united credit adjusters". they have been around for more then a decade. i was hesitant to use one of these companies, but my dad had used them years back, and they did the job right.
this cost me $400 up front, and $50 a month for a year.
i've been having problems with them, they guaranteed a credit score of over 600 by nov 1, and then they basically told me i was a liar when i asked why it was still so low. i had many other problems with them which are not important, but i told them i wanted to cancel the contract after they didnt raise it like they said they would, but they told me it was legally binding.
today the attorney general closed them down for being a scam.
i called the number, got an operator
i went to the website, this is what is there now
http://www.unitedcreditadjusters.com...ers/index.aspx
i'm pretty much bugging out..i know this isn't life changing money, but i've been working my ass off 24/7 to try to get my life together and this is just yet another block in the road..
kinda just venting, but anyone have any advice other then calling the attorney generals office? my family has a bad track record with him..my parents got scammed and got stuck with $8mil in drs bills, and the wonderful attorney general andrew cuomo lost the case.
life tilttttttttttttttttttttt -
I hope they don't have your cc #'s, debit card #'s, etc
-
looks like they need a new web designer.
-
guess you shouldnt have fucked your credit up in the first place
-
Those companies are all bs, just fix credit yourself by using the "paid in full check" trick, and writing letters to the credit bureau on companies that unfairly keep your accounts in poor standings.
-
so much bad stuff is happening in OT lately.
we need an uplifting thread sooooon -
only you can prevent bad credit. and only you can better your score. how would they actually have fixed your credit?
-
the problem isn't paying off my debts or getting those initial letters out to the companies who have black marked my credit. i have paid off all the negatives on there, but you send the letter to the companies, they have 45 days to dispute, then its the second letter that i don't know what to do about...it's such an easy 90% profit business so stupid to scam...
-
if you are really that concerned with trying to fix your credit through those means, then just do some research, you can do all the same things yourself.

bad things stay on ur credit history until you get them taken off..theres a system to doing this, but it takes a TON of time, and knowing exactly how to word things which is sometihng i don't know anyone who could really help me with..
and you say prevent bad credit...the past is the past, most of us do some stupid shit when we're young, some of us have lots of hardships that make it physically impossible to maintain a good credit score.. -
Contact the Atty Gen anyway, just another avenue for you to persue
-
just do some googling... there are a few really good sites out there for credit repair that have lots and lots of archives and information to go through.
-
So frustrating...

I agree, stupid shit happens. I'm young too. What I meant by prevent is just for the future, so that the same mistakes don't happen. Cheer up, still have your health at least?

great place to start with credit repair. I used some of their tips and moved my score up (mid score that is) a ton in 6 months. -
That sucks. I hope everything works out.

There used to be someone on the boards that did this for a living. I can't remember his name, but maybe someone else might. He was a frequent poster in OT.
