i went out drinking with about a half hour or so still left in the movie so i dont know what happened. i left right around the part where tattoo dude is like i went to prison for 9 years for shotting that dude cause he was gonna kill you. the part where they are standing in front of the fence where tattoo dude shot the guy. the movie wasnt bad at all. I just figured I would finish watching it another time. One thing I noticed is the movie spent too much time trying to get you to like ben affleck even though he is a bank robber. like they knew it would be hard for the audience to connect with a character like that so they made everyone around him 10 times worse just to make him look not as bad. like his best friend they make him to be a bad person even though he is his best friend. I didnt catch the end but i got the vibe that eventually tattoo dude would do something and the friendship would fall apart or he would do something at the end to seperate him and affleck. like something real violent where affleck sees that although he went to prison for him he cant stay friends because that dude is just too crazy. That I guess is my only real complaint. They had to make him likable and with the character he played it was gonna be tough but they could have went about it a better way. I never found myself sympathizing with affleck like they wanted me too because he still was a bank robber. His friends and family around him being 10 times more fucked up didnt make me wanna like him any more though. Just made me not like them at all. had no affect on how I saw afflecks character even though it was supposed to

I just felt certain things were force fed. like his friend. every scene with tattoo dude is meant to like him less and less as the movie evolves. like the first robbery where he bashes the bank manager in the head with his gun. that was so obviously done so the audience wouldnt like that character and they just keep trying to somewhat subtly reinforce it throughout the film with little things. And can someone explain why they needed to take the girl hostage when they rob the first bank. was there something i missed there? why did they need to take her with them and drop her off at the beach? -
i really didnt like this film that much. it was slightly above average but it tilts me that its getting so much love

lotta weirdos ITTIMO

Thought it was fantastic. It did an amazing job of capturing the underworld culture. Afflek raped

How so? Nothing happened in the whole movie. They forced us try and like this retarded relationship that they started. They sort of robbed some banks didn't develop any characters besides affleck the tatoo guy and the girl. When the other member of their crew got shot during the last hesit I literally felt nothing. I guess I just went into it with high expectations because of how everyone talked about it and I was so disappointed.

Little tidbit: My wife's best friend from childhood is an FBI agent in Boston, was a primary consultant on the film, and is named in the credits.
He and his wife had dinner with Affleck and Garner a few times. Said they were awesome and really down to earth.
Oh and I liked the movie but had some issues with it, most of which Skeeze already covered in his review. -
5.35532178 / 10....it's just alright.

i really enjoyed the movie but i can understand all the hate over the ridiculous romance between bank robber and victim.
-
7.65/10 I watched it last night and enjoyed but there were too many scenes that to me felt like they were directly lifted from Heat.
-
Amazing movie, top 10 on the year for sure.

this. the argument that ben wouldnt be friends with him irl because he does dumb shit is just retarded

The Town was one of my top 3 movies I watched in 2010. One of the main criticisms I've heard from a lot of people is that it's so similar to the 1995 movie Heat. I've never seen Heat so I guess that's why it didn't "interfere" with me liking it so much.
My top 3:
"The Social Network"
"The Town"
"The Fighter"
big year for movies with "the" in the title. -
Heat is a better movie than the Town but Town was still very good IDK WTF is wrong with all of these people

Well I'm sure it's not for everyone (do some research I suppose to decide if there is a chance of you (meaning anyone reading this) liking it)) but The King's Speech was the best film I saw in 2010. It was a period piece with great actors, a great story, lots of funny moments and lots of very sincere moments. It is a 100% film.
The Town falls around a 65% for me, so there is a wide gap there.
Comparison to Heat - I don't know. I think Heat is a top 30 movie of all time for me. -
Watched this last night, and was thoroughly entertained. To the OP who was wondering why Affleck's character stayed loyal to to Coughlin was because Affleck has a kid with Coughlin's sister.
-
I thought the film was fairly entertaining overall.. The only thing that really tilted me was him leaving the money for her in the end. I mean come on, are we supposed to believe that the rec center she volunteered for just randomly got a huge monetary donation from a faceless source without raising any red flags to law enforcement.

The kids not his. He stayed loyal because someone was going to kill him and coughlin killed that dude before he could kill affleck, got caught and did time.
