I love Scotch

    So last weekend I realized I have been wasting 7 or 8 years of my life drinking Scotch-whiskey, when really, the real magic is in single malt Scotch. I friggin missed it..

    Anyone recommend any particular single malts?

    Ive tried to drink scotch and water before but I just cant make myself like it.

    I have a friend that drinks it and all he drinks is Mcallan 12yr old

    Lagavulin 16
    Laphroaig 15 or 30 (the 30 is one of the best I've tasted, but goes for over $200 a bottle)
    Talisker 10
    Ardbeg (any year of maturity)

    Just to name a few, I used to drink Scotch more often, but lately have been getting into the higher end sipping tequilas, just as enjoyable with a cigar. But you can't go wrong with any malt from Islay in my opinion.

    Macallan is the god of single malts. They have a 50 yr that goes for $2K a bottle. One day....
    A few decent priced ones you might want to give a try: Glenfiddich- runs about $40 12 yr. I'd rank it higher than most blends like Walker Black and Chivas, but nothing really special. Glenlivet- $40 12 yr. Basically the same as fiddich, except there are a bunch of people who absolutley love this scotch. I'm not a huge fan of it. My final suggestion would be Highland Park. It's cheap (18 yr only like $70) but i could drink it every night. Def one of my favs.

    Thanks for the responses guys. Also Willie, JD>Scotch is pretty funny. I have drank a lot of JD, JB, and Chivas in my day but I am now convinced that single malts are stronger, taste better, and they don't go down like razor blades.

    I think I'll try Macallan, Laphroaig, and Highland Park next, then possibly all the others you guys listed since single malts are so damn good..

    I am not a connosieur. I like Glenlivet 12. I like it better than shit that is way more expensive, including Glenlivet 18.

    I'm not sure what you mean by scotch-whiskey. All scotch is whiskey. It's either single malt or blended. For instance, Johnny Walker is blended, Glen-whatever is usually single malt.

    Cue MadTiger's informative speech on blended scotch actually being better than single malt.

    Glenmorangie is an awesome scotch, and a bit cheaper than a lot of the others mentioned.

    Agree mozzer - Glenmorangie is what I had last Friday and basically what made me realize how terrible blends are in comparison.
