  1. I've come to the realization that when I'm not traveling to play poker (I travel about 4 months a year) my time at home is spent working out (which I love to do and do about 6 hrs a week), hanging with friends and drinking (which I know I'm doing too much drinking), and all the other time I'm bored out of mind.

I'm retired on disability so I don't have work to occupy time and I live in Washington state so I was banned from online poker last October (I used to play about 40-50 hrs a week of poker and it was a nice time killer, mental stimulant, and ok money generator).

I need to find something to do that gives me the same mental stimulation and competition that poker does. I could go play cash games at the casino's here but they are the ones behind online poker being banned and I'd hate to reward them with my play and I don't like cash games that much. I have to admit playing for money, even the small stakes I play for, added something to the mental stimulation because when you play for nothing it's not the same.

So any ideas about how to get the mental stimulation and kill time so I can control my drnking? I was thinking about taking some cooking classes and improving my cooking skills, but that is just a few hrs a month so I need more to do. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. Start growing your own weed, harvest, smoke. That'll help you kill all the time in the world, and stimulate your mind.
  3. Read
  4. forum trolling
  5. Scrabble
  6. how old are you and what disability do you have (obviously this will affect what you are able to do with free time)

  8. You could start day trading. It requires a ton of research and you get to learn about a lot of companies and stuff. Also, could be a good little money maker.

Or possibly start a website or look into clubwpt which should be legal in your state. There you could still play poker. Maybe a chess club or chess website?
  9. Blow and Hookers. The blow will keep your mind occupied and the hookers are stimulating.
  10. Kansas is open for business and would be glad to have you sir.

I'm 42 and have Ankylosing Spondylitis, basically my spine is fused from top to bottom, I've lost about 60 lbs in the last 6 months and despite my condition I'm probably in the best shape of my life, I could workout a couple more days a week but I really don't want to lose anymore weight so I'd have to increase my calorie intake if I did that. What I really need is something competitive and mentaly stimulating not physically stimulating.

I have a friend that day trades and he's always telling me to get into it and my bachelors degree is in Finance but the problem with that is I'm a night owl and day trading is an early start being on the west coast. Starting a website might be interesting if I can find a subject I'm interested in.

The clubwpt idea is the same problem with playing freerolls on pokerstars, which I can do, it doesn't get my competitive juices flowing because people play like it's a freeroll.

Problem with that is I like my friends around here and miss them tremendously, also my mother, sister, and nephews live here. If I were to move it would either be Oregon, San Diego, or Las Vegas.

I've actually been considering golf, I'll have to hit the driving range and see if I have any aptitude for it.

  17. if you like sports you could join fantasy leagues. im sure there are higher stake ones if you need to buy in with a decent amount to make it more interesting.
can be done during the night, or from a phone if you are traveling.
  18. Play black ops for sure. You will get your ass kicked at first but who cares. Add me on xbl ( Reoknows ) if you decide to play.

sounds like you found your answer
  20. Golf or Chess. Good luck.
  21. I'm uber-competitive as well but haven't really been able to play poker much at all over the past 3 years because of getting my MBA, career change, and wanting to spend time with my kids.

I started taking violin lessons about 6 weeks ago and really enjoy it. I practice a few times per week and have my private lessons on Saturdays. I'm very competitive with it and really want to get good at it.

I also just bought the complete French course with Rosetta Stone and got it in the mail yesterday. I'm pretty good with languages and would like to add another to the few I can already speak.

Not sure if any of those things interest you, but I recommend them if so. They're relatively inexpensive, keep me focused, and stop me from drinking when I'm on the road.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

  22. You could volunteer your time. Help people with the same disease as you adjust to life better.
  23. Je ne savais pas que leprechans pourrait jouer du violon.
  24. man, being on disability sounds sweet.

  26. Have you considered slaying hoodrats?
  27. Hey OP Im thinking about taking some cooking classes as well. Seems like it would be a win win to cook your lady friend a nice meal followed by sexin all night
  28. Golf is the obvious answer here. You will undoubtedly suck at it if youve never played before and if you are into sports and you are as competitive as you say you are, this will frustrate you to no end. Then in a matter of weeks, maybe even days, you'll be hooked for life.

I used to Volunteer tutoring a 7th then 8th grader that was having trouble and that was really rewarding but not that I travel so much I can't really dedicate the time that is neccessary to that and that's not fair to the kid, but helping others with my disease or maybe Veterans (as I am one) might be good.
