I suck at video games

    Im talking about games that ive put some time into and still just get smoked.

    Fifa 09-10, Ive put in a lot of hours and just get worked on a regular basis. I play my friends live and smash them. Yet when I play online its always a struggle, and its not uncommon for me to lose by 2-3 goals.

    NBA 2k10 i get smashed in almost every time. Some of these guys can get fast break dunks or lay ups on me everytime...Again playing my friends im always competitve, just started playing this one and I know I can get better but im not even certain where im fucking up.

    I wont even play halo, call of duty, etc online because those fucking players are just on a different level. I cant even fathom how many hours some of these people must put in.

    Can a few of OT's leet video game gurus give us weekend warriors some hints.

     I suck at a lot of things, but I'm that guy that's good at every video game. I think a lot of people over think the games, the best advice I can give is to put time in and work on getting better at one part of the game at a time.

    Ex: Halo -- focus on becoming more aware by using your radar, don't try to focus on using radar, aiming at the head, throwing better nades, all at the same time. one thing at a time

    Fifa -- focus on not turning the ball over, even if you don't always make great plays, just focus solely on not turning the ball over and once you master that the plays will come, you'll see stuff open up as you possess it more, etc etc.

    Do this with whatever game you're currently focusing on, and you'll notice you get better. I couldn't figure out call of duty for a while but eventually just focused solely on not dying, and realized that if i'm not dying then other people are, and that means you're a part of more kills and less deaths, and the other skills evolve with that.

    Yea Halo 3 not that fun anymore for me because there is just too many ridic good kids who seem to have played everyday since Halo 1 came out. Unless of course they are my teamates in which case its a 7 year old holding the controller backwards.

    Yea , fuck shooter games. I'm so god awful at halo and COD it's not even fun for me to play. Every time i play online with my friends I make our team lose cause the other teams just rapes me.

    Ima beast at madden or NBA games though..... and the Mario's

    pretty much when you play against random people everyone is cheap as fuck, at least when you play with your friends everyone is just trying to have fun vs Online where everyone just wants to win no matter what it costs. Like in a fighting game just doing the same cheap moves over and over or in call of duty people spawn camping or modding there controllers to rapid fire lol.

    Pretty much play cheap or lose or figure out a way to counter there strategies, some people are REALLY into this shit so you can find youtube videos with videos of really good players and tips etc...

    You're playing against people who put in massive hours. Just like poker or sports it takes tons of time to become a top level performer.

    I hear ya, man.

    I just started playing Mass Effect and have no fucking clue how to start doing missions. I'm supposed to be going to these other places to start saving people, interviewing people and can't seem to get out of the damn Citidel place where we start.

    i've got this same issue OP, i either stay extremely competitive or own all my friends in Madden 10, but online i'm at best a .500 player now, and i'm like 2-16 against heavyj (fuck him)*. when i played halo, didn't stand a fucking chance. my few kills usually came from beyond the grave throwing a grenade when i knew i was getting killed.

    i picked things up on killzone 2, to where i get plenty more kills than deaths, but i was so bad at the beginning that my K/D ratio is still like .65/1 who knows i may be successful at halo now but just don't enjoy it that much so probably won't redeem myself.

    * disclaimer: i will beat you on a regular basis when i have time to play again.

    Other than the Guitar Hero games, the last videogame I was good at was Galaga. I feel your pain.

    nba im pretty decent online. it all starts with defense. let the computer guard the ball handler and play the passing lanes yourself with the other players. when its in the paint, bring a double team from the other low-post defender, just having two guys near someone lowers their shooting percentage, then obviously push it on offense as soon as u get the rebound.

    fifa 10, i can't help you there. me and my friend will not lose vs another single human in RL and play each other extremely tight heads up, but online there are just some super sharks. honestly try to spend some time learning all the possible moves, dont bother using them in the game as much as just figuring out what every single option you have is. my friend lost the game manual on day one so i can't look up some extremely vital things which is kind of annoying. i plan on buying it myself soon enough so that should help. i've been having a lot of success playing the ultra-defense tactic (left/right on control pad to switch through these). avoids easy fast break opportunities and when you force a turnover from your opponent its easy to counter attack since you'll usually have plenty of guys around you. make sure you're using the give and go pass, i think its LB + pass for xbox, you'll pass the ball then that guy will go on a run so it keeps everyone moving up field.
