Ok here is the deal... My girlfriend recieves a letter in the mail saying that she has a warranty on a 2006 Mercury (which she never bought)and she needs to contact them soon to avoid penalties. The letter looks bogus first off. I will try to copy it.
Year:XXXX
Make:XXXX
Model:XXXXXXX
VIN#:XXXXXXXXXXX
No vehicle info. should apppear above (this seems unusual to me)
Dear ....,
We have been trying to reach you concerning the expiration of your automobile's warranty. Please call us immediatly to resolve the matter.
*TO AVOID LATE FEES OR PENALTIES PLEAE CALL WITHIN 3 DAYS OF RECEIPT OF THIS LETTER*
So my gf calls and tells them that she has never bought a car in 2006. They say yes she bought a Mercury. She says where was it purchased? They do not have that info. Who purchased it? they do not have that info. What is the VIN#? we do not have that information. She gets upset and asks to speak to a manager(these people seem shady and unprofessional). The manager tells her the same stuff then says that they have the Vin# but will not give it to her. They end up hanging up on her. She calls back and says what is this company's name. They tell her Moneyfactor Warranty Activation. She hears the other people saying stuff about her in the background then the rep says you have recieved the notice by accident and it is the wrong address. When it obviously isnt because her name and address are all over the message. WTF is happening?? is this a scam or has someone taken her identity. -

Don't send them any money, invest in Murderers Arizona Oceanfront properties instead.
Luxury at it's finest, just send him your contact information via PM, and he will send you an application.

i get these all the time ...
this is not so much a scam - its more a deceptive business practice ...
they are banking on the fact that you will call and purchase a warranty from them, thinking that you have had a warranty with them in the past ...
they will, in fact sell you a vehicle warranty - which is a stupid thing to buy, btw ... they are just being deceptive in the marketing ...
we get calls in our office a lot from suppliers that will refer to a piece of equiptment we have - telling us its time to reorder supplies or parts ... they are counting on us to just order from them, mistakingly thinking we are ordering from our regular supplier ...
its shady as hell ... but i wouldnt be worried about idetity theft in this case ... -
If you never bought it........... sinnr how do I contact your African uncle?
-
Phone number please? I think a prank call is in order
