  1. all the posts saying online poker should be legal.... if taken to their logical conclusion.... should also allow me to go to my local pharmacy and buy an 8 ball if I so desire, and clearly an ounce of weed. I am a libertarian so I agree that all should be legal as long as no ones autonomy is violated... just wondering what people think distinction is between legalized poker and legalized drugs. and why they are not moral equivalents
  2. If you are going to go to the extremes your argument can be flipped like this...

If gambling should be mad eillegal to protect gambling addicts from themselves, then alcohol should also be made illegal to protect alcoholics from themselves...
  3. exactly.... the principle thats says the govt shouldn't interfere with private actions which only possibly harm person doing it and don't violate anyones will... which i and most p5ers seem to be believe in.... could be invoked just as easily to say weed and coke and anything excepts acts of violence should also be legal.

  4. I like to blaze as much as anyone but all drugs being legalized has more potential to cause danger to others than poker being legal

  5. Check the stats for # of people killed by drunk drivers.
  6. The big differance is that you can go to a multitude of cities in the USA and gamble till your busto, and that's just fine by the Govt, they probably encourage it. If they let you go to Vegas and buy some smack/coke/crack but made it illegal to buy it online it would be hypocritical, just like when they made online gamblig illegal but allowed every B&M casino to contiue business as usual.
  7. Seal got my point.. Gambling addiction only harms the person losing the money (unless the addict has a family)

Drink and Drug addicts can potentially go and cause harm to others while intoxicated... and frequently do
  8. With your logic, my addition to chocolate cake should be made illegal then because it's an addiction.

Your post has no logic. One kills you, the other does not. One can cause you to hurt others, the other does not. Of course I'm assuming your someone who can control yourself and if you can't, that's your problem and I should not have to suffer because of it.

The posts on this site are getting ridiculous. Everyone coming out of the woodwork trying to act smart. GTFO.
  9. BAN MCDONALDS
  10. i think drugs shoulg be legal..I also think if someone drinks and drives that they should be subject to 10yrs in prison, the first time. I believe you should be allowed to do what you want, as long as what you want to do does not take away the rights of others, or places others in danger ect.
  11. ^^^^^^^^^^^ i hope this doesnt happen... Chicken nuggets just moved to the dollar menu.

  12. no
  13. onlinehandle, don't most libertarians believe "if something I am doing doesn't affect another person, then I should be allowed to do it?" This is exactly why they (and myself) feel internet poker should be legal, because it's not affecting anyone except for themselves.

The same cannot be said for drugs. If you put a pile of drugs out for people to buy, it will certainly hurt other people who do not use them. How many crack heads do you know that just do it for 'fun' and never got into a car while messed up, or got into a fight, or stole money, etc etc. Drugs can easily hurt other people.

Sure you can make the same case for poker, but those cases are very few and far between (highly addicted gamblers). Where-as if 100 people are fucked up on coke, well.... I'd be willing to bet that over 70 of them would do something that would negatively directly affect another person. I hate to say the govt should "protect" citizens from those 70 people, but there comes a point when things are just out of hand. It's a fine line, but I think that keeping *most* drugs illegal as they are now is the right way to go.
  14. so if the liklihood of harm should determine legality then liquor should be legal and weed illegal? clearly alcohol is more dangerous. my point is once you allow inherently subjective criteria to determine law it creates a slipperly slope where Bill Frist can claim online poker cause harm therefore it should be illegal.

  15. HOw can u legalize all drugs, thats what I want is some fucking dope fiends walking down the street geeked outta thair gords wheil I play in the front yard with my daughter.
  16. Then check the stats for # of monitors killed by drunk poker.
  17. It certainly is a slippery slope, I agree with you there. But how else can you determine if something is to be illegal or not?

Sure I can go out a buy a bomb makers book, a detonator, and some plastic explosives becaues I want to read about them and put them in my personal collection. But the likelyhood of me harming someone is so high that it has to be illegal to buy such items.

I know the analogy is a strech, but you are talking about a perfect world, and we certainly don't live in one of those.
  18. but once you accept that sometimes people can have their basic freedom violated for the good of society why can't the people democratically via bill frist decide they don't want online gambling in their society?

  19. I don't think your ability to go to a local pharmacy to buy an 8-ball, or smoke crack as you are walking down the street is a basic freedom.

And people did 'democratically via bill frist decide they don't want online gambling.' That's how the whole democracy thing works. You vote people in, you hold them accountable for their decisions, and you either reelect or boot them out.

I just can't see a sinlge good arguement for making all drugs legal.
  20. I just can't see a sinlge good arguement for making all drugs legal.

    They are fun?

  21. lol, i guess you have a point.
  22. theres no way that ALL drugs should legal
