    And sure I have driven drunk in the past, but when I do I always drive abnormally slow.

    drunk drivers may be the worst. i am drunk, had a shockingly bad night and now i am spewing off some $$$ on ft. all without driving. is it really that hard to get a cab?

    My friend was involved in a single car DUI accident. He eventually "recovered" from his traumatic brain injury, but was no longer the person I knew and loved. We eventually drifted apart, and I no longer see him. He may as well have died . . . I hope the guilty party in this situation gets jail time, and the ass-raping of a lifetime.

    And no, I do NOT drive if I am drinking. I know what lies down that road . . .

    Update: Last nights surgery went well and they hope to try to awaken him from his medical coma in the next few days.

    Below is a more detailed story and a video that shows the car after, it's horrible.

    I considered making this post myself. Small world. I work/worked with Mark and Justin. Both great guys. Our office will never be the same. Mark has about a 50-50 chance at this point. So we are all holding out hope for him. The crazies thing is that at literally the same time two other people in my office were rear ended in Grand Haven and their car was totaled. Really freaky world. Crazy how short it can be. I am still pretty shook up about it all.

    my brother was in a taxi coming from bar and got nailed by a drunk, he was pretty bad shape but got really lucky overall.

    Prayers for your friend. I pray he survives & makes a full recovery. Even if he does make a full recovery he will never be the same. And then this motherfucker takes off from the scene! This shit infuriates me & I have zero tolerance it! DRUNK DRIVING IS NO ACCIDENT!

    I am very sorry for your loss, I did not know Justin, but Mark is a good friend from CMU. Hope he can recover. Going back to MI Wednesday and going to try to see him and his family Thursday.

    Agree. People who attempt to text while driving should get a minimum 30 days in jail if they're caught, even if they aren't in an accident. If they're in an accident, they should get the same sentence a drunk driver would get as punishment, for they're being just as irresponsible and creating just as much danger. When you get behind the wheel of a car, you need to pay attention to the fucking road and drive safely.

    edit: Definitely hope for a complete recovery for your friend.

    well this is insane. for one, most drunk drivers don't get that much time. also, texting is much more momentary than the act of driving drunk, which is a constant state for your entire drive home.

    i'm not denying that. for the moments that a person is texting, it could very well be as bad or worse than drunk driving (though it's bullshit to ever say "just as bad" for something that, like drunk driving, is on a pretty long continuum)

    my point is that i would rather someone send one text message while driving than drive home drunk because the window for something to go wrong is so much smaller
