Check out the Rush documentary "Beyond the lighted stage". It is a great watch, probably about 2 hours or so and it goes through their entire career from 1968 when they were 16 and on. There are tons of great interviews throughout with guys like Kirk Hammett, Zakk Wylde, Vinnie Paul, Sebastian Bach, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan and some others I'm forgetting but basically covering all genres of rock and every one of them was so heavily influenced by Rush.

One of the reasons I bring this up is that in my opinion Rush is THE most underrated band in the history of time. They have always gone under the radar because of Geddy's vocals but people who really love rock music have to look past the voice to 3 of the most talented musicians ever. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78D00dYOBrM for a good example.
Probably the most respectable band decision I've ever seen is in the video when they talk about the record company back in 1974 telling them they have to write "pop" sounding songs. The band got together and unanimously decided to tell the record company to go fuck off and they were going to write the album the way they wanted to write it. They all agreed that if America didn't understand their album they would gladly move back to Canada and pick up jobs wherever they could, they would rather do that than sell out and write what the record company wanted them to write. So they wrote "2112" instead and the public "got it" and it worked out.
Anyways just watch the video it's great. I found a real good copy by just typing it into Vuze but I'm a noob (so they tell me) at downloading videos so I'm sure there are better ways than that... -
i heard it was fantastic. and rush is phenomenal

Yes sir. I just got done jamming to 2112 for the last half hour and my hand is about to fall off, yet somehow 60 year old Lifeson, Lee and Peart play for 3 hours. Sickos
I was gonna say 0 replies, a new low. But then it would just go on the same post since it's new p5s and still have 0 replies and not even bump. This thread is representative of Rush I suppose. So underrated. -
I can't be sure due to the copious amounts of alcohol I have consumed since then but 2112 may be the first LP I bought.
