In this show when they say that if there is a diff planet rly similar to Earth the aliens wld be diff in shape and size. My question is if the new planet is the same as or very similar why would the aliens be so much diff then us? I cld see if the new planet is way newer or way older. Why would nt they be pretty close too the way we look?

I'm guessing it would be different cause our survival traits are probably largely based on events such a apocalyptic type impacts......if you have different things (made of vastly different materials) pounding into another planet it will do everything from changing the landscape, to the atmosphere, to traits required for species to survive, how we evolve, to the materials used for everything built, etc

I guess i shd of mentioned that this would obv be a diff solar system.

Good question, and I really don't know the answer. Maybe scientists speculate that we ended up the way we are by random chance? Are hairless, upright, warm-blooded mammals the pinnacle of evolution, or did we become this way because of lucky circumstances millions of years ago? If you simulate our existence a thousand times, do we end up this way 95% of the time?
I don't know. I'm interested in hearing opinions though. -
ya this is prbly along the right lines.

evolution is driven purely by the need to survive (as i understand it).
we are what we are today because of all the countless circumstances this planet/solar system has been through.
this is a good question. i never really thought about it like this before. for life to get AS intelligent as we are it would indeed seem that it would prbly have to evolve in a similar manner (i.e. opposable thumbs to get shit done, large protected brains, etc) -
Ya but humans are the helmuts of the universe

the big difference would be dinosaurs... sounds funny but if the largest of dinos were alive for the million years the human evolved.. well good chance the human would not have evolved as far as the dominant specie of earth.

people are retarded, it says right in the bible we are made in the image of white jesus

exactly this

we are made in the image and likeness of god. how the fuck is that not comprehended by 99% of people out there? Aliens were not made in the image and likeness of God. And so they would look different. -
LOL!! Holy shit i love AbQ posts. Eff aliens!

You clearly don't understand what I was saying. But, the answer to your sarcastic question is both Yes and No, depending on how you want to define "random occurance".

If you mean "random occurance" how most people mean it, then the answer is yes. Occurances have a causal history. Chalking things up to random completely goes against the scientific method. Science uses a variety of methods to explain how things work. If you conclude that things just happen randomly, then you are discarding the scientific method. Things that appear to happen randomly appear this way because we lack full understanding of what is happening, or do not yet have the capabilities to properly simulate or test what is happening.
If you mean "random occurance" in a sense that things happen beyond our control, then the answer is No. Like something very large crashing into the earth, of what is now Mexico, and causing mass extinctions all over the planet and greatly altering our ecosystem - is all far beyond our control and significantly altered the evolution of Earth. This was beyond our control, but it was not random. There is a reason, a causality, for why those things happened the way they did. We may never know what the chain of events that lead to it are, but we have sufficient reason to assume that it didn't just "randomly" appear.
If you try and reason or guess "random" shit to evolution and natural selection, which is the idea behind this thread, then you clearly have no understanding how natural selections advances evolution. If you can not grasp this as a scientist, then I would imagine that most in the scientific community would not think you to be worth your salt. -
If you think about it, insects far out populate the planet more than all other living species combined. Now think of a planet where mammals never evolved. After 100 billion years of evolution on some alien planet, its not unreasonable to surmise insects would not only be the dominate species, but the far more intelligent species as well. Scientists figured this out long ago, which is why the "alien" figure we've all seen on tv and movies have taken an insect like appearance with the big bug eyes and triangular head. Independence Day, District 9, and Signs all come to mind. Reptiles are gay and stupid on average

According to Hawkings the small insects on our planet could very well BE the aliens. Kinda weird to wrap ur head around

its because they're aliens, stupid

I swear I read in Pop Sci, saw on discovery, or got from a bfactor post that some scientists believe there are more stars and planets in the universe than there are grains of sand on planet earth. Are you shitting me? Wrap your head around that! unreal.

Well, they say there's around 10 billion stars per galaxy and about 10 billion galaxies in our universe. So the number of stars in our universe would be somewhere around 10 billion * 10 billion, so, around 100,000,000,000,000,000,000. So that's like 100 quintillion stars, so probably around a sextillion planets. You know that's a big ass number when the spell check isn't even aware that you actually spelled it correctly... lulz...
