i am thinking about getting a new phone, right now i have an iphone 3g and am considering either a iphone 4 or a android (Samsung Captivate) wich is best and why? i have att as my carrier.
-
both choices are great, don't let fanboys sway you, get what you want.
if you do get iphone, jailbreak it -
why jail break it? what other apps do you add?
-
when the ip4 come out i decided to wait and get the captivate... kept the captivate for the full 30 days swaying back and forth to keep it or return and get iphone 4.
having used both i would say if you talk on the phone alot get the captivate the proximity sensor is still fucked on the iphone and i find myself muting people putting them on speakerphone etc etc. but for apps and shit the iphone 4 seems much more polished
I liked android and probably will swap to it at some point but the captivate with the gps issue and some of the apps being buggy just turned me off to it for now -
you can just do a shit-ton more things with it, themes, widgets, etc. you can do things that Apples dumb restrictions won't allow you to do. there are also apps that just make using the phone a lot easier and fun. if you jailbreak it you'll spend hours upon hours just playing around with themes and such

here are a few of my favs
Lock screen with SlantedLock theme installed

Home screen with Weather Info widget installed and Black'UPS theme

Home screen with Celeste HD theme

and a blank screen to show off that ass, just for good measure

lol@jailbreaking iphone to do what android will allow you to do natively. anyways, i had iphone 3g for 2 years...i have 0 regrets leaving it and ATT to get my Droid X on Verizon.
-
yeah, i never wanted an iphone before the iphone 4 came out, i was on the fence about whether to get it or the droid x, don't think you could go wrong either way
-
uh OP there was just a thread about this the other day

Droid

I wanted an iphone but I have sprint so I would have to wait several months if so. A few weeks ago I got the sprint samsung epic and my brother got the htc evo. Both phones are amazing. You can jailbreak either phone whether android or iphone. I haven't done it yet but when I figure it out properly I will. I have a lot of friends with iphones and they're sweet I like them but I like mine better. Once the new 2.2 update comes out for my phone I'll have no complaints since I can't watch streaming vids yet except youtube. I don't know if the captivate has the slide out keyboard too but if it does you should get it. I know the camera has no flash so that kind of sucks. You can keep your number and switch services if you don't mind doing that either though.

if you're on Sprint why would you not get the Evo? sick, sick phone -
Why not wait to get the Iphone 4 on Verizon? I can't wait to make the switch, but I've played with all my friends Droid phones (Incredible, Droid X, Captivate) and none of them compare to the Iphone in terms of use IMO.
And as far as I know, Droid doesn't give u basically every app for free, but a jailbroken Iphone does... -
Is that the i4 jpitt?

The Epic is actually the better phone...search "benchmark" in the Market and do some tests next to the Evo, the GPU in the Epic is unbelievable for a phone. Rumor is the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S phones have the same processor, so A4 = Hummingbird. Plus, you have Super Amoled screen, so the colors will look much more vibrant compared to the Evo, checkout a game such as Backbreaker vs the Evo. -
wow vn...do you have the 4.1 update?
-
iphone is legit and good enough obv but the droid/evo are superior -
^lmao
I was the first person to post that video in the beginning of June...never gets old ; ) -
The evo in terms of functionality and things I can do with it is amazing, but my battery life is really starting to piss me off. With moderate use I will get maybe 8 hours before it dies.
-
I work for a cell phone company that isn't Verizon or AT&T, and if I had to chose between the Iphone or DroidX it would be the droid ainec. I love the Android platform. I have a blackberry 9630, and if I ever switched my personal phone it would be to an Android. I got my girlfriend a HTC desire (android) that is pretty awesome. I might however have her move to a Galaxy S Mesmerize (android) in a few weeks.
-
common problem with Android phones is poor battery life. I had an Evo and Captivate and neither could last as long as my i4

Have you downloaded the advanced task killer? If not, there is a chance you can save some battery by killing the apps running in background. Also you can turn off some GPS features which conserves battery.
-
uh I think this is probably worth checking out if you have a phone that uses micro USB
$.08 car chargers? doesnt really matter if they dont work
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_os_product
advanced task killers are really bad for your phone, if you have a droid it would be wise to get rid of this ASAP. The droid has a built is task killer that frees up memory when needed, its really bad to just shut down tasks at will. -
Are they ever going to fix the antenna problem with the iphone4? Why would anyone buy it if it hasn't been fixed yet?

probably because it's not an issue. i rarely use a case and have never had a dropped call, and i can't even make mine lose reception if i try. i was pissed when i first heard reports of the issue, and was considering taking my phone back, but it was definitely way way overblown. -
it doesn't kill android tasks, just you can set it to close programs that are running in the background at certain intervals, etc. like right now my coupons app is running in the background and I havent used it in 2 days
-
I've been a iphone owner for about a year and a half an love it. I recently bought my gf the captive and I must say it's pretty bad ass. I don't think you can go wrong with a iphone or android phone. Most of it has to do with personal preference.
my comparison is 3gs to captive btw -
Everything I've seen says dump the task killer, running those small apps wouldn't have a noticeable effect on battery life. I think I think I found a way to recalibrate the battery though, ill report back so far its been unplugged for over two hours, I've sent some texts made a few posts and I still have full battery which is already infinitely better than in the past.

Droid X is the best phone on the market
