  1. I am planning a honeymoon. YAY! We want to go somewhere we can drive to. What are some cool islands on the east coast, probably in Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia that you have been to that would make for a good honeymoon spot. We want a place w good weather, a nice island, and things to do.

Please include pics, links and stories.

Something like Hilton Head ish. That is on place I have on my list already. Want to compile a list of 4-5 cities to compare.

  6. +1 to St Simons Island in GA
  7. I have a house in the Outer Banks and it is one of my top 5 fave places in the world. Absolutely love it there. Cape Hatteras in particular is amazing, but keep in mind (and you probably know this) it is not "island" as in Hawaii island or anything near it. It's much more "rustic" and "blue collar". I dont know best terms I could come up with. Essentially a small fishing village.,

I'd head up to Jockey's Ride and fly some stunt kites. Always a good time. You can also hang glide up there. Maybe spend a day fishing on the Nags Head pier (assuming you dig that kind of stuff). Walking up the Hatteras Light house is worth doing as well.

My wife and I go to Sanibel almost every year. If you go in the off-season and stay in Fort Myers (right across the causeway) it is cheap as hell and there is tons to do but plenty of nothing to do as well.

We also enjoy Chincoteague/Asateague but not really "beach" islands, more about the horses the park and the quaint towns.

Finally Outer Banks is a decent drive from almost anywhere on the east coast and has a little something for everyone at reasonable rates.

  14. I have nothing really to contribute to the actual thread. It's the 1st thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.

  15. if you got 4 wheel drive you can get a place where you actually have to drive on the beach a while to get to the houses. there's horses and shit, its pretty awesome, i lived there for a couple years.

oh right, its at the very northern end of the Outer Banks, almost to the VA line. Corolla, Carova Beach, etc

  18. Avoid Virginia Beach... if you're going to go in Virginia, I'd recommend somewhere on the eastern shore, or something like that.

The outer banks are great, lots of memories there. Thats where we had our beach week celebrations in high school, also went down several times with family while I was younger. Don't think I've been back since I was a senior in HS though, sad to say =[

Did you move out of Ohio?

  19. Ocracoke, NC.....Bald Head Island, NC....St. Simons

in that order, Ocracoke is on Outer Banks and only accessible by boat, one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and perfect for a quiet romantic honeymoon IMO....Bald Head is same way but a little bigger and more touristy IMO, only because its bigger though, not cause people visit, you actually have to have a reservation on the island to even go on it, and get a sweet golf cart the second you get off the boat.

  20. Don't have a ton of things to compare it to, but Folly Beach just outside of Charleston is the shit.

Has a little strip of bars and restaraunts a nice beach and is like 20 minutes from Charleston which is neat too. Just had a cool gibe to it.

I'm a native Floridian and approve of this post. We go to Captiva every year, and will eventually retire there. If you are planning to go to an Island... it has to be tropical. You aren't gonna get tropical anywhere north of FL. There are tons of fantastic restaurants, and the beaches/water/flora are pristine. The whole place is romantic and captivating...hence its name.

Sanibel is awesome too, and basically right up the road. A little more upbeat and crowded than Captiva. We love the whole area.

lol since you HAVE to drive through Sanibel to get to Captiva saying it's up the road is a bit misleading. If you do go this route rent bikes from Billy's by the week. Cheaper then daily (a week is about the same as 2 days) and both islands are pretty much dead flat, often you can actually go faster than the cars. If you love the whole wildlife thing Ding Darling Wildlife preserve on Sanibel is amazing (make sure you ask about the Bailey tract if you want to see gators)

  28. Yea, Captiva Island is awesome. Been going there with my extended family every year for as long as I can remember. Love that place. Although now that I'm older, I wish it had more of a night life. Oh well, it still rapes.
