  1. Ive been regularly lifting and Im looking for a new workout since Ive become bored with the lifts that I do. I tried a few different workouts, but all involve the core lifts (deadlift, bench, squat) along with a few different lifts to go with each. Ive become bored and unmotivated with all these standard lifts.

Anyone here know of a routine or workout that is a little more creative or one that is more body weight oriented or something theyve done that isnt boring?
  2. what are you looking to do---gain muscle mass + bulk, cut body fat, or...?
  3. gain mass and keep a low body fat %. right now im 6' 172 and my body fat is somewhere 8-12%. id like to be around 185. gaining has always been hard for me since my metabolism is really high. i understand lifting heavy is how you build muscle and mass, but id like to do something that involves getting to 185 but keeping a low fat %

  6. keeping low body fat + gaining muscle mass is very easy/doable if you keep the right ratio of protein/carbs/fat. You have to eat a shit ton though. I'd probably guess something like a ratio of 275-300 g of protein, 250-275 g of carbs, 60 g of fat combined with heavy lifting (+ cutting out cardio completely) would help you gain, on average, around 1 lb a week or so.

unfortunately i'm not sure what an 'exciting workout' would be that would also help you gain muscle mass. Taking the core lifts out would be stupid as those are the best for gaining + getting stronger. what exactly bores you about your workout right now? what does it consist of? how many days a week do you lift?
  7. sup brah
  8. i would incorporate super sets with some cardio mixed in
  9. Watch Jersey Shore when it premiers on MTV and find out how those guys get "ripped like Rambo"
  10. this is always fun to mix in a couple times a month.
not really a "work out" though.

  11. Jerk it but only after cleaning

  12. right now im doing a 4 day mass gaining workout from muscle and fitness magazine that has me doing like 6-8 different exercises each day. for example on chest and triceps day i do bench/dumbbell bench/incline bench/incline dumbbell/tricep pulldown/dumbbell kickback/an ab exercise. the other 3 days are back-biceps, legs/abs, shoulders. im just getting tired of doing all these standard weight training exercises. maybe it makes no sense to want to gain mass without using weights, but i just want to try something new. something similar to 300 workout or a navy seal program. i heard p90x is garbage and doesnt work.

  13. you might be interested in this .. i throw this in once a week to mix it up and really burn my muscles and get the cardio goin which i don't really get from my heavy lifts .. basically it is as follows ..

all lifts are body weight and done til failure unless otherwise noted

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 min jog and stretch just to get loose

    pushups into reverse pushups
pull ups into shoulder press on spot rack(going for 15 to 20 i do it with 35lbs on each side)
    chin ups into reverse dips
dips into row machine(p.s. i think this is also called the urg machine its not the weighted one) for 3 minutes

-- intervals on treadmill .. minute on minute off total of 10 minutes .. walk around 2.5 while off and sprint around 9 to 9.5 while on

row machine for 3 minutes into dips
    reverse dips into chin ups
    shoulder press on spot rack
    reverse pushups into pushups

    --- intervals again for 10 minutes --

finish with 15 minutes of abs
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
(again all of the excercises are done til failure and once you are capable of doing this workout withotu shortcuts then you can add in adjustments and other fun stuff such as more leg workouts like box jumps and bodyweight squats)
  14. the thing about all the cardio/superset/interval training etc ones is it's just going to massively slow down gaining mass (which is what you want to do) unless you eat even more than I already recommended...probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 4k+ calories. unfortunately gaining mass probably involves the most "boring" workouts while all the fun stuff is great for cutting, looking more ripped, and all that but not so much for just gaining pure mass (and 13 lbs is quite a bit if you have the high metabolism you say you do).

what about a program where you keep your core lifts, but change all your side lifts on a semiregular basis so you stop getting bored? would that work for you? stuff like tri pulldowns, kickbacks and all that stuff can easily be switched around to new stuff every 2 weeks or something like that.

fwiw, I make up challenges on my workout (try to lift a little bit more than last time each time), throw in dropsets, or do random switches just to keep myself motivated, but in general, I don't get too bored I guess because I know what I'm doing right now really works and I'm going to see the results.

also p90x is great for getting you cut and maybe gaining a little bit of mass just b/c of your muscle gains but you're not going to gain the same way you would with a different program and since that's your goal, I would focus on that...p90x could be a fun one to throw in once you already get to 185-188 or so, but yeah, I wouldn't do it until then if you're serious about wanting to be 185 as soon as you can.

of course, the most important part is easily diet

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to gain mass with out heavy weights... I mean other than just getting fat. It's a grind to do the same shit everyday but don't fix it if it's not broken. I've done p90x two times and had good results both times. It's mainly going to cut you up , but you'll gain a little. It's actually pretty fun and intense. I only did the yoga every once in a while because it lasted 90mins. I replaced it with the core synergistics dvd. IDK ... worth a shot I guess. Their recovery drink is amazing tho. I'd at least look in to it.
Most important thing is your diet. Your body is going to always react to what you eat. It doesn't matter how hard you work out you aren't going to gain unless you're eating enough calories to gain. Body Building.com has a ton of different exercises and work out plans though. I'd hit that up.
