they're both a chicago favorite, but which one would you pick
-
gyro all day everyday
-
i eat more italian beef
but gyros are better -
Italian beef would be my pick. Jay's, Johnny's, Buona.
For gyros, central gyros is the best in the city. -
OMFG it is close but I'm going with a great italian beef being better than a great gyro...but wow sick match-up
-
ten minutes!
-
italian beef.
-
i'm a fan of the italian beef...
-
Is Italian Beef the same thing as Sausage? Is this just a Chicago phrase? Never heard of it referred to that way.
Back to the question, I'd give gyro the edge, but it's mostly because of that awesome cucumber sauce (I can say it but there's no way I'm trying to spell that Greekness) -
Norweigan Snausages> Italiano Meat-tella-balls
-
ive never been to a legit gyro place, so i cant make a quality pick here.
only got them from the greek guys at the lunch carts when i lived in philly. -
Where is Central Gyros? never had it...

I like Buona for the beef.
In the west burbs, there's a little place called Preno's in Bolingbrook. The gyros there are huge, and sfdelicious. -
this is an italian beef:

More important do you call it a "Jie Roe" (like "guy" with a 'J' for the first part) or "Yee Roe"
-
I mean just sport peppers not the giardanair...not a big fan of most giardanair recipes, especially those that have corn and other shit in them
-
i call it yeeroe.
i think thats the proper name for it. -
Italian Beef Sandwich, dipped, preferably from the original Al's on Taylor Street or any Portillo's.
Al's was on a recent episode of Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel. -
that's cause you're from New Yawk and say it wrong.....

Nick's, which is Far North Side/Lincolnwood, has a really good gyro... and anywhere in Greektown....
Tons of great places for Italian Beef.... I go with both sweet and hot giardiniera.... awesome contrast....
EDIT: yeah, can't go wrong with Portillo's... I was stoked when they put one on Ohio/Ontario (can't remember which) in the 90s... -
Central's on Central and Belmont. It's funny, I moved away from that hood, then went back there about 5 years later, and had the same waitress when I went back that I always used to have.
