so one of my friends itunes library was completely wiped out and they (and i) dont know how to restore the library. songs are still on the ipod, but im assuming they shouldnt plug it in to the computer or the ipod would get erased too.
so basically how does one restore an itunes library? -
if its the same comp it should be able to transfer and at the least transfer purchases.
if it doesnt recognize the ipod then google software that can get past the barriers and let him copy them easily. -
k, here goes,
plug in ipod.
go to my computer
find k:drive or whatever drive ipod is on
open
music
copy all onto your desktop
open itunes
add folders to library
viola ,
apple got hip to the game and crushed the dream of transferring song titles over so...
google
torrents
copypod
or any software that aloows you to rip ipods..
gl.// -
but wont plugging in the ipod automatically sync it to the libary and therefore delete everything?
-
that depends on how you have your itunes sync'd up
open itunes and select manually manage songs and playlist's -
there is software that does this, i cant remember but use google
-
I actually just did this for the first time today, I used "copypod". I bought an external hard drive and wanted to backup all the songs I have on my ipod but have deleted from my computer. Really easy to use, took a while though, but I have about 40 gig's on my ipod.

Did Apple really start disallowing transfers recently? I've traded over 40 gigs of music before.
Used to be you could go to folder options under My Computer and enable hidden folders to be viewed. Then just go to whichever movable storage the ipod is under. Select the hidden folder iPod Control and under that select Music. You'll see a bunch of folders titled F00-F50 or something similar. These are the music files. Copy them and transfer to storage on the computer. You then open ITunes and import the files from whereever you saved them.
I've done this as recently as Nov. and I've been able to accumulate a ton of music by getting friends libraries right off there Ipods when they have them with them. Sucks if you can't still do that. -
You can still do that, but as mentioned above, the song titles don't come along with the files.

Hm, always works for me. Do you have Auto-Sort selected? I do and Itune files them for me.
