Jailbreaking iTouch or iPhone

    I currently own a iTouch version 1.1.3. So ive seen about 10 videos on youtube w/ 15-16 year old kids trying to explain how to do this, which theyre horrible at. Can someone explain to me why this is beneficial? Is it just to change screen functions, icons, and backround colors? Or is there a multitude of programs that can be downloaded.

    i'll speak from an iphone viewpoint.

    jailbreaking it allowed me to put apps on my fone. ie: aim, etch a sketch. You also could add nintendo or something.

    It allowed me to put songs as ringtones instead of buying them for a dollar from itunes.
