  1. Wow very nice work, both on fire pit and ribs.

Couple of question on rib technique. I see foil, how long do you smoke w/o tin foil and how long w/? Also do you go back to w/o to firm up bark? Do you have them on smoke the whole time or do you go oven at all? Any sauce or just rub? Favorite rub? Do you like yours fall off bone or still with some firmness but coming off clean?

    /20 questions

For baby backs I have been doing 2-2-1 (w/o, w/, w/o), but my last batch was a little tough and wouldn't pull from bone. Where still tasty but not quite perfect.

Again, great work and way to stick it to the neighbor.
  2. lol....not bad for a white boy.

Oh hey I just got home. For the ribs I cook them for about 4½ hours total. The first three hours uncovered. I only add hickory chips to smoke for the first two hours. After the three hours I foil them for one hour. Then foil off and sauced for the little bit.

I like the ribs to fall right off the bone.

  4. Nicely done. Nothing more satisfying than doing things yourself. I have a similar project on the to-do list myself coming up.

  8. Nothing better than Caveman TV and Meat Porn. Nice work!!
  9. Looks great

Maybe get some benches with backs, but I guess you could always drag some chairs out if necessary.

  10. looks allsum

have you thought about getting a grill set up for cooking??

    heres the one i got

big enough for a few steaks or a bunch of hamburgers and brats

it swivels on the bottom for flipping and seasoning, makes it much easier to handle the food

pin on the back for up and down

    that pit is boss tho

another question as i want to build a smoker...how much room do i need on top? like 18 inches?
  11. adopt me
  12. Very nice, I built this one a couple years ago. It's all firebrick in the middle in a pattern, I put straws in the mortar for drainage. The outside is all bluestone. Real men have fire pits.

  13. Nice work Lefty. My only critique would be using the bark mulch - it's the worst for walking in barefoot, kids can't play on it (very high risk of splinters), and generally it sucks compared to dirt or grass.

Otherwise it looks killer, sweet pit construction!
  14. Is it a MA thing where you need to rock a killer backyard? And nice grass dams, no weeds!
  15. You did a lot more than build a firepit, you cleaned up a lot of the yard removing weeds and some trees and laying down some woodchips or something.

My backyard is all grass. That's where the kid's play. This area is just like in the woods and I wanted it to look cleaner. I won't be mulching every year. Oh and never have I heard of getting a splinter from pine mulch.

  18. lefty, your wife is a lucky lady. that is all. <3
  19. Our municipal by-law would never allow me to have an open fire. Nice that you live in an area that allows that, or your effort would be a big waste of time.
  20. God, I hate you all. My back yard sucks. I hate all of you that have nice, organized garages and kick ass back yards. If you come to my house I have to poop scoop before you get here but I may miss a pile so you shouldn't go in the grass. My garage is a friggin mess too. On the other hand I do live in a private, gated, lake community and drive my golf cart on the streets and such.
