  1. i work for what i thought was a good friend of mine. Been here for three years now and i really have/had a gravy job...got to work this morning and he has sold the company. We are all out of a job. I cant decide whether i should be angry at him or not.

I think I want to give him the plague..I am a single father of a three year old with a big mortgage...this is bullshit...i am fucked. and he never even mentioned this was an option. fuck him, right?

    any job ideas?

  2. sheet metal worker
  3. poker

  4. sounds like "fuck him" to me, but there are a lot of missing details it would appear.

He is probably looking out for himself, similiar to how you wish he was looking out for you, etc.

gl in your job hunt, tough to make suggestions without your education and employment history. PM me a resume and then I will make random suggestions that have nothing to do with either.
  5. There's always money in the bananastand

  6. Details man? Was the company having trouble? Was he known to be interested in selling? I cannot imagine this is a 100% surprise, you had to pick up on something, some type of hint here that something was up.
  7. yeah im looking at your poker scores and i am really concerned you wont be able to make enough money this month. better work on your game dude. gl. pm mike tison, it saved my life.
  8. lol at fuck him. he only paid ur salary for 3 years.

yes as a friend he shouldve given you a heads-up, but its just business.
  9. Fuck him? He gave you a gravy job that you held for 3 years. He sold his company. It's not about you.
  10. I think you got laid off, not fired.
  11. i now suspect you were playing poker AT work and wont have time at home. i suggest not telling anyone you got fired and go play poker somewhere every day like you are going to work. its got to work out better than it did for me lol.
  12. I would hire you if you lived here. That really sucks. Hopefully you can find something.

It was blunt but very true, just how simple this really is. Granted, any type of layoff today is very tough, but with the economic times we are all living in then everyone should be putting money away as much as possible, you just never know.
  15. Cut back on the falconry imo.

    Seriously though...gl man.
  16. So, your friend owned a company and gave you a job (when you had a newborn) for 3 years. It was good enough that you were able to buy a house.

If you have hard feelings about it, talk to him, but I'm not sure what you expect here. Sure, if he was planning to sell the company for 6 months and intentionally kept you in the dark, that's tough. But, was it neccessary. If he told you, in confidence, would you have felt obligated to tell others? What if it fell through and all of you quit on him?

It's a tough spot, but I doubt your buddy was trying to fuck you over. If he wanted to do that, there are far easier ways than making your life great for 3 years.
  17. I would be very angry that the friend did not give you any sort of heads-up that he'd be selling the company and letting you go. If he'd at least let you know something was coming, then it wouldn't be "fuck him". Because he decided to drop a bombshell out of nowhere, I think it is "fuck him".

Business should not interfere with friendship, but the lack of a heads-up is pretty bad friendship...

  18. SKISTEVE....very good suggestions...poker is too time consuming tho...

Mueller ...i have a Boring Bachelors degree in Management from South Carolina

    the details are as follows.

He starts a lighting design firm 3 years ago. Brings me out of poker back into real job. I just saw architects/engineers...entertaining/selling...blah blah

He freaks out this year when economy starts going bad. Hint number 1. He is quick to jump off ship with everything in his life when things go south. In our area there were two big players...us and "Company A". "Company A" offers him a job and less than 7 figures for his startup compnay and he takes it. thats chump change IMO for what we had going. No warning...No severance...No nothing.

My daughter is 3...if you follow timelines well..you will notice that I quit poker (full time) when daughter was born to provide more stability for her.

I do possibly have angles to trap his ass....drugs/hookers/etc..etc... that his family may not be to keen on...and to me that would be me looking out for me...just like himself looking out for him.

maybe hit him up for BR to start playing the game again?...yes definitely fuck him...he should have at least told me to start cleaning my system out (lol) because a drug test may be on the horizon. How long for pot to get out of your system ?

Correct in one way, which is why he should not have hired him to start with.

    haha wp brilliant

maybe it is the best thing that could have happened to you?

  23. wow. you're going to blackmail your "friend" who gave you a gravy job for three years.

with friends like you, who needs enemies.
  24. meh, really shitty that he didn't give you a heads up if you are friends

But seriously, way over the line IMO. Maybe it's cause you just got fired and don't have your head on straight but with his decision at least he can rationalize it as business. In your case that's straight up blackmail/douchebaggery.

Good luck finding a job though.
  25. Yeah you sound like a real douche talking about "trapping him", why don't you thank him for giving you an easy job (that you probably weren't qualified for) and providing a stable income when you had a child? Get over yourself, he doesn't owe you anything.
  26. dolphin...this guy is no longer a friend....this motherfucker is as crooked as they come. He didnt give me shit. After the first year...I was a commision only guy...which is true for most sales jobs...I built his business from nil..and now he is going to get his silly ass money and send his employees packing....super douchebag move IMO...at least bargain for jobs for your people...especially if they are you have a personal relationship with them...which all of us did to some extent.

you'll know who your true friends are when shit hits the fan in life.
  28. It has happened to me.

Work hard at finding your next job. Don't blame your friend for selling his company.
  29. FUTON...definitely angry and not thinking clearly...just thinking aloud...getting the OT's help...so yes from the outside looking in...i can see how this would be a dick move...but im not beyond it yet
