Holy shit go and see this movie. I am not joking. I am not the type to go see movies in the theater whatsoever. I don't even go out and see movies that I'm excited came out anymore. The last movie I paid $9 to see in the theater was The Prestige.
But a Simpsons movie? I just had to see it, and it did not disappoint. I won't spoil anything, but it was incredible. When it was over and the credits rolled, I had this incredible feeling I hadn't experienced in years. It was the feeling I had only twice in my lifetime. Going to see the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and going to see the first Mortal Kombat movie. It was incredible, like a rush of nostalgia. Experiencing something I loved as a kid, but on the big screen.
In my opinion they did a flawless job on this movie. It was a feature-film length story that just pushed all the right Simpson-loving buttons (with the exception of a slight lacking of Milhouse.) There was even a point in the film that nearly drew a tear (if you've seen it you know.) Yeah that's right, a tear.
One thing they didn't do was go over the top with, 'they're on the big screen so they're doing things that can't be done on primetime TV.' There are maybe 3 things I can think of and they were all done perfectly. You left the theater most likely talking about those 3 things. -
That is what too much hype does.
-
No. It could have been better. The first 25-30 minutes proved that it had the making to be a great, hilarious movie. Instead the story stunk and the comedy lacked in the last hour or so.
There was so much potential, and it could've lived up to the hype with a smarter story. The first half hour was hysterical, which had me more excited than the original hype.
Don't get me wrong, I was looking forward to it and expecting greatness. I came away pleased, just wishing for more though. Like, why did they have to pick THAT story? Why'd they have so much of the movie set outside of Springfield? The Southpark Movie was waaaaaay better than The Simpsons movie.
Overall, definitely a thumbs-up, but I wish they could've delivered the first half hour's comedic genius into the next 60 minutes. Sadly, the story and over-the-topness of everything stopped that from happening.
The great thing about The Simpsons and Seinfeld is that you can think back to episodes when you're doing anything ordinary in everyday life and say, "Hey, remember that Seinfeld/Simpsons episode where..." and everyone is like, "Oh yeah, hahahaha!" That's what made those two shows so far-and-away the best. The Simpsons Movie is not going to do that for anyone, mostly because the story was downright stupid. -
Just saw the movie , but didnt see the 50 other threads about it. Sad so sad.

Where the hell was principal skinner? And why didn't they spend more time at the Kwik-E-Mart? And why didn't ralph have more quality lines?
I don't think they used their quality supplementary characters nearly as well as they could have. I still laughed throughout the entire movie, but I would have laughed MORE had they utilized the versatility of the cast of characters more. -
^ couldnt have said it better if i tried
I would have loved an hour and a half of nothing in particular going on around springfield. Especially Flanders making more hot chocolate. -
Fell asleep. FW@$ing sucked

ive seen simpsons growing up, and this movie was horrible. id rather watch a dvd box set of previous seasons.
-
Im sorry but that movie was a piece of garbage and i love the simpsons... shit was whack,, i dont know how the rating on imdb is so high... At best it deserves a 4.7/10
-
just watched it online.. ok at best
-
Agreed, first 30 minutes or so was good and then it jsut went down hill. Put the whole movie in springfield. 4/10
-
I agree with what most people are saying. The first 30 mins or so was gold then it just slowed down. Overall I'd say it was an OK movie and certainly better than alot of the crap thats been coming out lately but it coulda been so much more.

I really enjoyed the movie.
Yes, the first 30 minutes was the best part of the movie. I also think that the Simpson's had to step away, their tv shows really mix lots of everyday situations with topical references, yet with the movie, I'm guessing they wanted something that could hold up over a long time on its own. I also think they tried to make something that could be enjoyed by a someone who really isn't a "Simpson fan", or at least hasn't seen many episodes.
Overall, I really liked it. I'm not gun ho for a sequal (though, I imagine one will come), but as a one shot deal, I thought this was done very well. -
This movie was such a dissapointment
I might have been to tired and not in a movie type mood, but as soon as they pointed out you just paid for something you get for free it threw me off.
Too much lisa, way to much of a storyline.
Cartoon are supposed to be just stuff, you know, like people getting hurt and stuff. -
i've seen it twice once in the theatre and once at a drive in. i have always loved the simpsons but i kind of think they have fell out in the past couple years. i mean i still think it's great but i've been watching it since i was a kid. the movie fucking ruled though, it was so smart.
i guess my expectatinos weren't that high but it was a great movie nonetheless.
