meh overrated.... good but not amazing.

LOTR Trilogy (same as Dark Knight, no rush)
    City of God
    Avatar (w/e)
    The Wrestler

those are the main ones... then some others like In Bruges, Little Miss Sunshine, The Prestige, The Pianist...

City of God ruuuuules. In a way i feel like it has a similar feel to slumdog except muchhhh darker/grittier.

Also, still check out Avatar, but that movie was made to be seen in 3d in an imax theatre. They should keep it there forever. Watching it on blu ray or whatever just won't be the same.

In Bruges was really average. Don't waste $ on it.
  8. Children Of Men
  9. There Will Be Blood is slow but absolutely amazing.

Slumdog is the nuts. I've told so many people to watch it and they're all like, nah, looks stupid. Everybody assumes it's some bubblegum feel good movie about a poor kid that strikes it rich on a game show.
  10. In Bruges, Prestige, Pianist and Dark Knight should all be must watch NOW!
  11. Meh.......it only dominated the Oscars in 2008

  12. oh shit, everyone I had asked about Slumdog said it was so good, but it still outperformed expectations... really an incredibly made, emotionally moving film.

  13. I'm perplexed but even more jealous of that yet-to-see list

i'll +1 SM > IB (not too close for me tho)
  14. any thoughts on "Open Your Eyes", "Magnolia", or "Snatch"?

I can instant-watch 'The Pianist' on Netflix. I also haven't seen "Syriana" or "The Insider", which are also available on instantview....

"Magnolia" is cinematic genius. The script is great. The directing is great. And the acting is ridiculously outstanding. It's definitely worth the 3.5 hours of your time.

"Snatch" is also a great movie but you should see its cousin and predecessor "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" first.

I know nothing about the third movie.

that's understandable if you like Tarantino, but don't totally worship his works... which I do.

  17. never saw, loved it - altho it's not for everyone, people who don't like snatch are a rare breed and i'm not 1 of them

yep. that's probably the case re: QT, def like not worship. SM just seem to hit me from all over the place. It helps that Latika is sfh imo.

Magnolia- Weird and very good movie, but very, very disturbing.

Snatch is awesome, but I liked Rock n Rolla much more.

Insider > Syriana but both are great.

WTF, did you do a 10 year stretch in the joint?

Overrated. Good movie, could have been great. Ending ruined it for me. Needed 30 more minutes. It's like sex without busting a nut.

"Magnolia" is genius. If you can get through a lengthy movie like "Heat", this is one you can get through too.

"Snatch" is a good movie but have to agree with winwin that "Lock, Stock" is a far superior movie in terms of everything. I own "Lock, Stock". I don't own "Snatch".

"Open Your Eyes" is good too. I had to watch it when I was working at Hollywood Video (RIP). Solid, mess with your mind type of film. Bonus: Penelope Cruz topless. DON'T mess with "Vanilla Sky". Awful remake...

Anyways, "Slumdog" rocked. It lived up to expectations.

City of God definitely rules but has very little in common with Slumdog except for the fact that the characters live in slums.

Also, In Bruges is fucking outstanding and should be at the top of your list. Anyone telling you differently is crazy.

XXEDPXX is totally right about Children of Men, it's definitely a must see.

  27. *Spoiler*

I liked it a lot. If it would have ended that he was making it all up it would have been one of my favorite movies.
  28. If you like documentaries, check out Man on Wire.
  29. you need to see a lot of shit
stop copying and pasting Witten made a sick 1 handed grab and watch some movies! lol
  30. Am I the only one who wasn't blown away by Slumdog? I think the story is great and all but it's a movie I quickly forgot about after watching it. And I made sure to watch it a second time after it came out on DVD, but still didn't think much of it.
