So you capitalize Stadium Course and it suppose to drive your point? What about Tennis?

Na understands that. He said he understands that. The people butthurt by the fans are just soft.
And I am not saying that the fans can't get into the game and certainly the change in culture and the new founded popularity is only better for the game. For that reason alone is why I love Ryder Cup play.. so you missed my point entirely. I will be the first one at a tournament after a few beers to yell "In the hole" or "be the ball" after a tee shot. However, a sport that entrusts it's players to enforce rules upon themselves and has a great tradition of sportsmanship has no room for idiots who mock a player while he is falling apart. Because it is Kevin Na people really don't care that much of what took place Sunday.. however, if it was Rory at last years Masters ALOT of eye brows would be raised. FWIW the patrons of the masters last year were cheering and encouraging Rory even when it was hard to watch him as he was falling apart.
Esarbe, do you play or follow golf? I give two turds if you do.. just don't want to waste my time arguing this with someone who doesn't have a clue anyways. -
jesus christ you sound like a parent making excuses for their kids.
these are grown men making millions because.of these new found fans started by tiger woods' rise. tennis was far more popular a sport in the 70s 80s.and.90s. golf is big cause of tiger...nothing more. these fans are a product of that. every player should give tiger 5% of their pay cause he is worth at least twice that to them -
just an opinion guy.. \You need a beer

The difference is that people were mocking Na because of his slow play -- which has grown as a serious issue in the game across all levels -- not because of his quality of play. Whether at a public course on Saturday afternoon or at The Players on Saturday afternoon, slow play is irritating to all parties involved and is detrimental to the game. Rory was playing his usual quick and admirable pace at The Masters. He was just playing horribly. And I am not saying that the fans can't get into the game and certainly the change in culture and the new founded popularity is only better for the game. I capitalize Stadium Course because it is a proper noun -- very much like Old Course at St. Andrews or South Course at Torrey Pines. So you capitalize Stadium Course and it suppose to drive your point? What about Tennis?

we have different opinions.. so this will be the last I drag this out.

He was within the rules.. I hate slow play as well. It is obv he is fighting pre-shot demons and he self acknowledges. I think that is why I defend the guy so much.. he knows he has a issue apologizes for it. He isn't trying to be a dick.. he said he was sorry multiple times to Zach Johnson while playing together. I kinda feel for the guy.
Interesting read from USA today.. glad I found it online:
"I know the whole world is watching. I'm trying to play as fast as I could," Na said Sunday. "I was 40 yards ahead of Matt basically trying to sprint out to my ball so I can get to it with extra time.
"I'm going to try to take out the whole waggle. I'm going to try to do a little up-and-down behind the ball, but it's going to take time, practice and tournaments, and I'm going to try to take out the whole waggle.
"Honestly, it's going to be a battle."
***
Slow play has been a recurring issue on the PGA Tour, and not just because of Na.
The rule: Players are expected to keep up with the group in front of them, and if they get out of position the group can be timed. Each player is given 40 seconds to hit a shot from the fairway and 60 seconds on the green once his group is on the clock. If a player in a group that is on the clock doesn't meet those standards, the player is in violation.
• One bad time during a round is a warning.
• Two bad times means a one-stroke penalty and a $5,000 fine.
• Three bad times means a two-stroke penalty and a $10,000 fine.
• Four bad times means the player is disqualified. -
So I can sit in the outfield and tell the left fielder I want to rape his family, but you guys get butthurt when someone teases a millionaire golfer for taking too long?
Such a pussy sport. -
How much does the left fielder make?

Just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should -

A lot of them probably make less then Na.
Not sure what you point is tho.
I am going to catch a lot of shit for my opinion here, but I don't believe that the price of a ticket gives a fan a right to verbally abuse anyone. And as a fan, I shouldn't have to listen to it either.
Boo or cheer I don't care but fans have gone over the line in almost every sport. Try attending an NFL game in opponents stadium wearing visiting team's gear some time. -
Na wasnt made about this tho, I wasnt hating on him at all. Its just funny listening to golf snobs. Same guys probably laugh when drunk guys yell random shit at NFL games.

And, you forget i lived in philly, ive been to mutiple Eagles game... ive seen how crazy fans act. -
That was awesome what the fans did to Na. In between shots, they can say whatever they want. 4 rounds of that shit was brutal.

If he wasnt contending it would've been fine, but when it's crammed down your throats, people get irritated and will voice opinions by any means necessary.
Yes he's aware, yes he's apologetic. But I bet he fixes it quick to avoid more scrutiny and further embarrassment.
He took it like a man and was a class act. He hates it just as much, if not more than anyone else. I applaud him on that part. -
so, when ricky fowler putts in for double bogey, he gets polite applause, but when na takes a minute to pull the trigger but hits a good shot he gets mocked, booed, and chanted at? who here watches golf to watch guys walk up to their ball and hit it as fast as possible? I watch to see great shots and the drama of competition, having to wait 45 seconds to see na hit a ball doesnt ruin my experience, it just makes for interesting water cooler talk. but i mean, i wouldnt expect anything different than some of the attitudes on a poker forum who are inclined to tell someone to get aids, die, die in a grease fire, and basically talk shit anonymously to anyone whose opinion they don't agree with.

Exactly. Your opinion is based on emotion, not logic. Like a female. You are upset with the fans because they were being mean to someone that you empathize with.

His response to the situation only strengthens my point that the fans' response to his actions were not out of line. I haven't ridiculed him as a person, told him to die, get AIDS, etc. etc. All I've said is that people were rattled by the nature of his slow play and they let him know that -- like when fans boo the home team in team sports when they're playing like shit.
And he was violating the slow play rule; that's why he got a warning. It's the first consequence of breaking the rule.
Me. Watching Rory and Fowler play so fast and free is so much more enjoyable to watch to me than watching Na or Furyk grind all day, back of tee shots, back off putts, etc. Just a preference, but clearly one that many others share. -
The difference between golf and other sports for fan noise is that in golf, the norm is silence and in other sports, the norm is a wall of noise.
If golf fans were loud all the time, it would not bother the golfers one bit.
Conversely, if Yankees Stadium all of a sudden fell silent right before a pitch, it would distract the players. -
Not of the best quality, but made me laugh for a second, again.
-
If someone yelled before he swings I don't condone that. I haven't seen any reports that that happened. The fans were yelling things after the shot, which is very common.

What is the dude saying in the Hamilton video
-
Alexander Hamilton?

kevin na last week vs this week is a drastic change. he worked on a new pre shot routine this week and was getting shots off in 11 seconds off the tee in the first round today. so, uh, there you go critics. problem solved?!
-
Wow, good for him.
-
also, shot even par after a bogey on 18, so clearly it hasn't fucked him up much if at all.... so far
just shocked he was able to make such a drastic change to his routine so quickly. these wacky golfers live for their pre shot routines typically -
good stuff - hope it works out for him. I was watching an old US Open tape when Sergio was going through his battle with preshot - looked like he was milking a cow. I think he squeezed and released the handle 10 or 12 times before each shot. It was painful to watch.
-
I watched that the other day as well and I counted 31 regrips on 1 of his tee shots. Was so rediculous. Dont see how Tiger played as well as he did having to deal with that bs all day.
-
tiger was too busy checking out tail in the crowd to notice
