wouldnt last a day in the late 80's early 90's heavyweight boxing ranks. That is all.
-
Am I the only one who would love to see one of them take on Pacquiao.
Would they be able to land a clean shot on Pacquiao? Would it just take one clean punch to knock Pacman out? Could Pacquiao do any damage to their body? obv couldn't reach their heads -
people still care about boxing?
-
Late 80s and early 90s were not exactly a golden era for heavyweights. How many heavyweights can you see beating them from that era other than a prime Tyson, a prime Holyfield, Lennox Lewis (who was still developing in the early 90s) and Riddick Bowe?
-
Guys like Frank Bruno Buster Douglas Razor Ruddock Carl Williams Michael Spinks Bruce Seldon. All those guys would beat todays heavyweights decisively. Some of those guys slowed down in the early 90s but they could still lay a beating. Maybe even Larry Holmes in '87.
-
Quite a few people do actually. Other than the heavyweight category all the other weight classes are at their peak atm. The biggest purses are being earned and live gate and ppv sales are breaking records. Even though boxing seems to be dying down its like a cockroach. It wont go anywhere eventhough it may seem like its disappearing.
-
LOL @ Bruce Seldon. That guy got schooled by Tony Tubbs. Michael Spinks was retired by 1988. And as a natural light heavyweight, he would have had a huge size disadvantage vs. the Klitshckos.
Larry Holmes of the late 70s and early 80s would have beaten the brothers via fairly comforrtable UD, but not the late 80s, early 90s version of Holmes who was not busy enough.
Buster Douglas had one truly great fight in his career against Mike Tyson who himself had 100 different distractions before the fight. Carl the Truth Williams was decent but nothing special; lost to guys like Witherspoon and Weaver.
Frank Bruno was severely overrated because the media, especially in England, saw him as a loveable teddy bear and a nice guy. He also lost to some mediocre fighters and the way a big heavyweight like Lennox (who, at the time of the fight, had not even developed into the hall of fame heavyweight he was at the end of his career) schooled him is pretty telling and indicative of what the Klitsckos would have done to him.
I will give you Razor Ruddock, though. A prime Donovan would have been a tough fight for both brothers, but I am not sure if he would beat them. -
They have moved his ass a few times.

Dude - that would be the equivalent of a 5 year old girl trying to fight a fully grown grizzly bear.

Manny is a beast but if he were to be put in the ring with a big middlewight never mind a heavyweight he would get sparked out. Manny would be landing punches on the guys stomach which could do some damage but if a heavyweight landed one clean punch it would be goodnight Manny.
The current bunch of heavyweights are a joke. Vitali is ok but Vladimir is a joke, He has the speed of a fucking wounded buffalo. Chagaev is a poor fighter and that Valuev is just a total joke fighter. -
Yeah, it's probably some other BS, but it was cool to see that statue right at the top.

Philadelphia is a great boxing town, too. Joe Frazier, Bernard Hopkins, even Marvin Hagler cut his teeth fighting tough Philly fighters at the Spectrum in the 70s. Politics and corruption have made the boxing a fringe sport. Too bad. -
Bruce Seldon would have been a good opponent for the brothers and he would have probably won. Thing is with comparing these guys to todays guys is that the fighters from the late 80s and early 90s were good fighters but because of the high level of competition back then today they seem shitty when theyre not. Buster Douglas was a great fighter even if he hadnt beat Tyson. He was out of shape alot but for sure wouldve man handled the klitchos. Not really gonna go through the list but when todays top heavyweights include Oliver McCall who was rated #5 by the wbc until not too long ago and Evander Holyfield its not very hard to seem like good heavyweights. Razor Ruddock wouldve spanked them no doubt.
-
Man, you lose a lot of credibility ywhen you say stuff like that. The only other eye-catching win Douglas has is vs. Oliver McCall who was coked out of his mind most of the time. I just looked at his record and he lost to guys like David Bey, Mike White, Jesse Ferguson and Tony Tucker. Are kidding me?

Also, the alphabet organiztion rankings don't mean shit. Don't even patyattention to their rankings because they are in large part based on which promoter can offer the largest bribe. Just look at the Ring magazine ratings. -
I love boxing, but today's heavyweights are really disappointing. Is there anyone coming up that we can get excited about?
-
David Haye was scheduled to fight Vladimir. He's a former undisputed cruiserweight champion who was a huge right hand and unlike the current crop of heavyweights he actually has speed. Problem is though he's very chinny. One punch form the Klitchko's would cause him big problems.
-
There are two heavyweights that have a ton of power and will end up in action fights no matter, but both also have some shortcomings. David Haye, former Cruiserweight champ from the UK and Chris Arreola from CA. The problem is Haye may be a tad bit too small to beat huge heavyweights like the Klitschkos and Arreola, while possessing a ton of talent, is a lazy fuck who is often out of shape and can't tuck hic chin to save his life.
There are two very good former Soviets, Alexander Dimitenko and Alexander Povetkin. Povetkin is definitely more fluid than either Klitschko, but I don't think he'll deveop into an all time great.
Also, this may be too early to tell as his competition has not been anywhere near world class, but there's a young 21-year old British kid called Tyson Fury who is 6'7" and can throw every punch in the book with a lot of power. He'll have to get in better shape and shore up his defense, but he's got a lot of great offensive tools. -
I saw Tyson Fury's last fight. He does seem to have a bright future. His dad is the biggest prick in the world.... Tyson Fury needs to tell him to GTFO.
-
There was some decent footage on him on youtube. The volume of punches he throws to the body is astounding for a heavyweight. I think the kid has some real tools and if he can work with a world-class trainer, he has the potential to become a real force in the division.

Also, he has the coolest name in the sport. -
I might be wrong, have not done a google search. I was a big Kickboxing/Muay Thai fan for years in the 80s 90s. Are these not the brothers who were Kickboxing champs in the early 90s?
If they would have just done Boxing back then they would prob be alot better. -
I know older brother Vitali was a kickboxing champ. Not sure about Wladimir; he won an Olympic gold in boxing at a fairly young age.
-
there are too many weight categories, they need to get it down to like 3 or 4, maybe 5
-
This. It was either last year or the year before that the top 2 PPV boxing matches outsold every UFC card for the entire year.

Disagree with OP. Athletes are bigger, stronger, and much better trained than they were 20 years ago.
-
Boxing doesnt do a big PPV every month either like the UFC.
