  1. Brief back story - I broke my hip and tore my ACL in a riding accident in '07. I've since healed and started working out again, but I cannot seem to get back into running without either re-injuring my knee or causing my entire leg to just ache constantly.

In HS, I ran XC. I love running and I'm trying to get back into it. I spend a couple hours a day at the gym doing low-impact cardio and resistance training.

Yesterday, I went for an easy jog and today my knee is swollen and I'm having to ice it.

Does anyone have any exercises that could build up the strength in my knee so that I can get into running again? I'd love to get down and be able to at least jog the Turkey Trot in Dallas this year. I'd also love to do it without a brace, but I don't want to push my luck. LOL

Anyway - do y'all have any suggestions that have personally given you results? I've done variations of stuff I've found online, but I much prefer personal experience.
  2. first
  3. do squats on your man's cack
  4. I'd suggest rubbing one out.
  5. jogging/running is pretty rough on your knees, esp given your history - have you seen an orthopedist recently?
  6. I'm serious! LOL

    Please?

  8. stop giving blow-jays on your knees
  9. Swimming is prob best for you.

Few years back I was a non smoking, 150 laps a day, single stud.

Now I am a chain smoking, couch sitting, married man.

Swimming, and I'm serious. Swimming will help you gain strength in your knees and ankles. Don't under-estimate the resistance of water. It's also a great cardio workout.

    Do girls rub em out?
  12. wall sits, squats with no resistance or with bands, yoga (balance/stabilizers), etc.

    PM me for specifics

  13. Get one of these and cut your leg off. Knee pain solved. You're welcome!
  14. Strengthen the other muscles of your legs.. Quads hamstrings etc. For less impact in the knees. But running isnt good for you knees especially if you already have bad ones.
  15. Awesome! Thank you for a constructive answer.

tkeat - Who says I'm giving them on my knees? Just Kidding.

Ha Ha I beat you for once.

My father suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and swimming was prescribed for him, as a matter of fact he could deduct the pool as a medical expense.

Hmm. I've only got one of these.
Would this work? Or would it be too messy? Or would it matter, since I'm a woman and would clean it up anyway?

  20. i have torn ligaments in my knee also, you have to stop running and just do strengthening of muscles for id say 2 months then gradually get back into running.
do 1 min running, 2 min walking, for 15 mins for a week then 2min of each then 3 min running 1 waling etc to build it up, its a long process.
  21. Wouldn't mind inputting it...but swimming obv best answer here...the slight resistance but no pain is just magical on a knee...

Coincidentally, my friend's dog torn it's ACL (3 times actually, yea great vet huh) and they suggested having him walk thru water on a treadmill they have set up in the back...of course that worked, until she torn her ACL a 2nd and then 3rd time, lol...

    your swollen knees say so!!!!!
  23. you say you're all healed up, but did you do any rehab for your knee? you need to slowly build up the strength again. as monkey said, some pool exercises will greatly help. just don't overdo it.
  24. Yoga and/or Tai chi. Increasing internal energy flow will help to strengthen and repair. Fight a good tai chi teacher and we will probably know some qigong exercises designed specifically for the knee joints.

    Good luck.
  25. Wow... I didn't read ANY of this... but this may be the best thread title ever.

  27. when i ran cross country in high school i learned everything i could about shoes. an improper pair of shoes (ones that aren't designed for your specific stride) can do damage. when i found out that my shoes were hurting my knees and switched to my current brand of asics, it was like taking a magic pill. if there's a running store in your area that actually has runners working in it, i would pay them a visit and explain the situation. if you can't talk to an actual runner (one who has at least competed at some point in their life) it won't do much good because some schmuck will just try to sell you instead of help you with your specific problem. also, stretch, a lot. gl!

Oh man, believe it or not I was so amused by the title I just moved on assuming it was a guy that posted. No wonder there are so many actual responses and not a bunch of homo jokes. Thanks for ruining it, now I just feel mean.
