The thing is PEDs don't enhance performance directly, they enhance athletes' ability to train to perform better. Just a small thing that usually gets overlooked.
I vote for no testing across the board. Of course in reality it's a matter of following the rules of the league but that's not how most people look at the presence of PEDs. Bring back the wild west and level the playing field imo. -
It's possible...I don't follow Jeter that closely.
However, he hit 6 HRs all of last year, and has 13 right now. I know that it's b/c he's running super hot on his HR/FB%...but to people just looking at numbers, it SHOULD look fishy--thus making the question valid. -
Lol jroth. Check pics of tony gwynn as he aged. Proof or gtfo

So you say. Proof?
Lol @ ot: cops/prosecution always wrong...unless atlete accused of "cheating" -
Edited By: kellykip Aug 24th, 2012 at 08:30 AMJust looked it up - he had a .909 OPS last August. He also hit 18 homeruns as a 35 year old. If you look at his career, he has yo-yo'd a few times in terms of HRs; he went from 24 to 15 once, 11 to 18 once (as a 35 year old).Originally Posted by JRoth15

In terms of full seasons, he's had 5 years where he's hit 11 or less, and 7 where he's hit 18 or more. His season to season home run projections have always been very difficult to gauge.
EDIT: I know you're not making the case that he's on something -
I never said that Bonds was guilty, FYI. I could care less either way...I've never even seen a study that has shown where HGH is even harmful to a user. I'm sure it can be in HUGE doses, but it's actually somewhat of a positive--and actually gets prescribed quite often by doctors.
It's not proof, but the side-by-side pic of Lamar from his Pirates days to his Giants days is pretty fishy. Unless he's had more surgeries than William Shatner, I'd say something is different with his head/face. It's just a hypothesis by me...not proof by any means.
I've said it a million times anyway...I could give a shit less who uses steroids or PEDs. It's like people in golf calling for belly and long putters to be banned in amateur rounds...golf is hard enough as it is; why not use every possible advantage? Hitting a baseball is insanely hard--I don't care how many PEDs you take, his 2002 season is still unfathomable. He was a great player before his Giants days... -
the espn sportsnation poll has 47% popular opinion saying he didn't take PED's. Most ridiculous thing ever. Of course the most drug abused sport there is, but the 7 time tour de france winner and all around best cyclist ever is clean... i dont even blame him for it. It's like not taking PED's during the baseball steroid era. it's not cheating if everybody is doing it.

And in the process he pissed off the French for a decade -
Odds that Derek Jeter is the next big name pro athlete to get popped for Steroids/HGH?
-
i dont understand how the most scrutinized athlete of the 2000s never ever got caught
-
"I think pro-athletes should be forced to use steroids. I think we as fans deserve the greatest athletes science can create! Lets go! Anything that will make you run faster, jump higher! I have High-Definition TV! I want my athletes like my video games! Lets go! I could care less if you die at 40. You hate life after sports anyways. I'm doing you a favor."

What's really worse...Armstrong (allegedly) using PED's and as a result raising over 450 Million dollars for cancer research...
... the dickwads at the USADA spending millions on a witchhunt trying to make a name for themselves and justify their existence?
Regardless of whether Armstrong did PED's or not, he was never actually caught doing them. Unless you're going to go back and use the same type of scrutiny on every single athlete in the history of the sport, then it's clear, some fuck wad had an agenda. -
Don't know anything about this situation all I know is his name consistently comes up as an example of a famous asshole so this sounds good to me
-
could care less that he cheated. cycling is filled with cheaters. he helped raise almost a half a billion dollars for other people. that's what I think about when I think about Lance Armstrong
-
Tony Gwynn set career highs in hits, doubles, home runs, and RBIs (by 29) when he was 38, in 1997. And would have set a career high in homer runs the following year if he didn't get hurt (1 short in 22 less games)

i'm not saying he's on roids...the real reason he's hitting more HRs this year is because his HR/FB% is at 21.7%--which is so absurdly high i don't even know how to describe it.
however, my point wasn't even about that...my point is that i feel it's a completely valid question to ask given all the information we now know about the past few decades. his power is up at age 38 and he's played with 10 "known" users (or whatever the number is)...why wouldn't it be a valid question? -
no the problem with what that fukcing muppet bayless said is he used names with no basis on anything. you think skip would be happy if people started to say shit like "i heard he might dodges taxes" or "i heard that he blew the president of espn" (the last one is probably true). fuck that clown and fuck espn for letting him run his mouth. espn has been on a pos decline the last 5 years. noone gives a fuck what bayless thinks and they just let him spew whatever he wants and yea, sooooo many people give a crap about jets TRAINING CAMP. and dont get me started on the little league world series either.

He was led into a position by Clemens' attorney.
I also love how everybody was so up in arms about Skip Bayless mentioning the phrase "PEDs" while using Derek Jeter's name...even tho he's having a power surge year at age 38. I know it's Skip Bayless and he's an idiot, but why is it not a valid question? He's seemingly getting better at the plate at age 38, and he's played with about 10 guys who have been on the juice. I'm definitely not saying Jeter juices or did at any point, but why is it not a valid question? All of the people before him have opened the door...why wouldn't we question his season with the way everything else has went down?
oh and now they are the "official place to watch clements pitch in his minor league start"...are you kidding me? -
Extremely little chance, but then again you knew that or else you would have put a % down yourself that indicated some possibility distinct enough for you to have mentioned him specifically. See what you just did is one of the oldest tricks in the book used by extremely passive people; you know that you are talking out your ass, so you float it out there instead of committing by stating and owning an actual opinion.

You could prove me wrong and actually post what odds you think it is, but that won't happen. -
Wonder how long until our Livestrong Park is under new name?
-
I say let everyone use HGH etc. They dont give you strength easily, they just let you workout like a madman and recover better. Lances workouts were better than anyones, he trained harder and won. If everyone can (and probably already do) use it then no one has an advantage. Hell, Id love to have a lifetime supply of the stuff myself.

I must admit, it would be a lot easier to ride a bike with one nut
-
To be fair all those cycling dudes are on something.
How can you get a spear through your leg

Or get smashed by a car into a barbed wire fence
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2013327/Tour-France-Cyclist-collides-car-sending-rival-barbed-wire-fence.html
And hop back on your bike and finish thhe race? -
Drugs or no, the man is still an inspiration. It's like he said in his interview; he knows who won those 7 TDF titles, and so does everybody else. Do you really think everybody is going to just forget who he is? Stripped of titles or not, I'll always think of him as the guy who killed it in the Tour.

Edited By: JRoth15 Aug 24th, 2012 at 04:21 PMCan't see his HR/FB% b/c they didn't track it back then...but his ISO definitely went up for his last few years. It's odd...but I didn't bring Tony Gwynn's name up. And I only posted a pic of Bonds to show that his facial structure had physically changed. People don't do that...Originally Posted by TMLMS13

And LOL @ using RBIs...c'mon, son. I think the biggest anomaly would be that he stole 17/11/12 bases in his 36/37/38 aged seasons.
EDIT--And I meant Barry's 2001 season when I posted last night...not 2002. It'd be interesting to see what his HR/FB% was in 2001. For the 6 seasons they tracked it, his HR/FB% was 25.1%...that means 1 out of every 4 flyballs he hit went out of the park. That's insane.
HR/FB% (home run rate) is the percentage of home runs a pitcher gives up out of the number of fly balls they gave up. League average is normally around 10.6% (the number used in xFIP).
