My girlfriend is brazilian and i want to learn portugese, I am 23 and i only know english. Obviously i am past the prime age for learning another language. I have a few years in school of learning spanish and french but never even came close to grasping them. Have any of you tried something like this and if so, how did it turn out?

Oh man, you are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too old. Make sure you order your dentures and pick up your social security check, btw.

I grew up speaking french, but obviously picked up English along the way since I live in North America. I took some Spanish classes in high school but never really put any effort into it, so it didn't stick
You're not too old. Really. How about talking an online class or something? Learn the basics. Have your girlfriend buy you a few good children books in Portugese. Have frequent conversations with her, etc. It's not that hard if you put some effort into it.

I hate when young people talk about being to old to do something.

In the 2 years I spent in Germany when I was 20/21, I picked up quite a bit of deutsch. It's more than probable somebody can learn a language in their 20's. (as if that's old). I hadn't been for 6 years, and I went back a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed at how much I remembered.
