    Using data from MRI scans, researchers at the University College London found that self-described liberals have a larger anterior cingulate cortex--a gray matter of the brain associated with understanding complexity. Meanwhile, self-described conservatives are more likely to have a larger amygdala, an almond-shaped area that is associated with fear and anxiety.

    It makes sense, what leads to conservatism is the feeling of wanting to protect and maintain while what leads to liberalism is the wanting to change current structures to benefit the masses.

    Before I go definitive, I'd have to read the article plus further peer-reviewed material. But naps are more productive so meh.

    It may have something to do with the amygdala being part of the limbic system, which is involved in our emotions, particularly those related to survival. But hey, let's discount that people who have larger amygdalas are more survival oriented, and instead focus on the political motivation behind labeling them as fear mongers. This should be a fun thread.

    if the same results were found in a lab at the University of Alabama than i am sure the conclusions would promote the conservative brain in a positive light and the liberal side of the brain in a negative.

    For example, the liberals who understand complexity often advance that to thinking they understand everything and therefore they can decide whats better for everyone not just themselves. this makes them inherently gigantic assholes and unbearable to be around. Kind of like alot of those libs on this forum.

    According to scientists at UC San Diego and Harvard University, "ideology is affected not just by social factors, but also by a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4." That and how many friends you had during high school.
    The study was led by UCSD's James Fowler and focused on 2,000 subjects from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Scientists matched the subjects' genetic information with "maps" of their social networks. According to researchers, they determined that people "with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults." However, the, subjects were only more likely to have leanings to the left if they were also socially active during adolescence.
    "It is the crucial interaction of two factors -- the genetic predisposition and the environmental condition of having many friends in adolescence -- that is associated with being more liberal,” according to the study.
    "These findings suggest that political affiliation is not based solely on the kind of social environment people experience,” said Fowler, who is a professor of political science and medical genetics.
