1. Just got an email from Ebay. In it they say

Also, because we know buyers take into consideration the total cost of an item, also starting April 19, to encourage sellers to keep shipping costs low, the Final Value Fee will be applied to the total amount of the sale--including shipping."

So by applying the FVF to shipping, the seller is expected to lower shipping costs? Seems to me that I will have to raise my shipping fees to make up for the % that Ebay is taking. And for those you who don't sell on Ebay, PayPal already takes a percentage of the shipping fee. So now we're being double taxed on on something that is break even at best.

2. I recently sold a few things on ebay, and in the process got screwed a couple times by buyers. I learned one thing about selling on ebay: they rape sellers every which way possible. Add another one to the list of ways they screw the seller...

3. that is why i only buy :)
4. Haven't sold anything since I paid $18 for shipping to make sure that two tickets arrived the following morning in Iowa because the buyer took 24 hours to pay for their tickets and then the buyer claimed they didn't receive the tickets on time and demanded a refund. My lesson learned was people buy tickets, pay late, and most likely lie that they don't arrive so they can go to a game for free.
5. Craigslist tho
6. I never got this message from ebay. I'm a Top Rated seller, so not sure if it's not real or just something that doesn't apply to me.

8. It's because of all the scammers who sell shit like a 7 dollar vinyl record then charge 20 to ship it across 2 states. Believe it or not this happens often because some people are too lazy to check the shipping price.
9. I love it when a seller lists a 600 dollar item for 150.00 buy it now with 450.00 shipping
10. I always thought sellers did that trick so they'd pay less in their listing fees? So the FVF basically makes sure Ebay gets their cut no matter how you slice it?

Exactly, and increases fees overall.
12. What does it cost to sell something on eBay?

I just bought shit before but have an iPhone 4 I may want to sell on there
13. Better to sell an iPhone on craigslist imo

14. By the time ebay smacks ya with listing fees final value fees then hits ya with paypal fees it gets up there. There is still plenty of cash to be made esp. if you are selling your own product but I def. agree that ebay rapes the sellers all the way to charge backs on your paypal account.

Paypal will insta chargeback anything so fast if it gets disputed too. Ebay is def. a very buyer-centric community.

For just regular ole sellers, Ebay will charge 9% of the selling price plus any insertion fees (usually less than 50 cents and could be free depending on what type of listing you have). Paypal will then charge you 30 cents + 2.9% of the total cost (selling price + shipping costs). If you are a new seller, Paypal will put a hold on your funds for 21 days or until your receive positive feedback for the item or delivery can be confirmed. Ebay's policy starting April 19th will be to charge 9% on the selling price + the shipping cost.

16. Holy shit, so about 15% by the time the smoke clears?

I guess Craigslist is probably the way to go.

delivery confirmation works wonders. would never ship something time sensitive like a ticket without it. If you have proof that they received the tickets on time ebay will take care of you.

18. People used to jack up shipping prices so that ebay couldnt charge the final value price fee on the extra shipping. Ebay has obv started to get pissed off because of this and they are changing their rule. You are very naive if you think they are doing this to protect the buyer... they are doing it to protect their pockets. Im surprised it took this long tbh.

Ive done it where I would put $30+ for shipping just to save a little money. But I always sold shoes, and I guess complete morons dont buy shoes and they actually realize what is going on.
19. this sucks cause I sell baseball cards for .99 cents all the fucking time with 2.50 shipping.

You think Josh Thiel would be happy with his facebook money. nope.
