wont happen, gamestop, the biggest video game retailer in the country (maybe world?) is responsible for a plurality of xbox game sales. gamestop also makes most of their profit off of used game sales. theyre gonna throw a shit fit and basically guarantee this doesnt happen because if gamestop doesnt promote the next generation xbox system then it will crash and burn.
-
Seems like that would lead to a bigger blow to Gamestop than Xbox. People will go wherever to buy an Xbox. If Gamestop doesn't have it, they'll drive down the street to Kmart and get it.

Good luck with this idea working.

one of the dumber things ive read in the past few weeks. suck it xbox.
-
Yeah I don't think Gamestop is gonna have the power to kibosh something like this. I buy a lot of used games but I see why Microsoft would do this. The thing is that if PS4 allows used games and 720 doesn't, the 720 will get crushed in sales. So in the end I would be surprised if it happens.

i see your point giga, i'm just saying gamestop is the biggest video game retailer in the world and 44% of their profit comes from used game sales. obviously big box stores act as competitors but there is a gamestop in basically every mall and strip mall in america so xbox would be burning a huge bridge here if they were to do it and xbox would be seriously hurt if gamestop chose not to sell their products.

gamestop has 25% of the us market share in video game sales -
WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In before the Xbox 720 is hacked to allow used games.
-
Why dont they just make all the games free? Problem solved imo.

There is no way in hell gamestop would stop selling xbox products. Plus, it's just a store. Yes, it's the biggest retailer of games, but it's just a retail location. If they tried to not sell xbox or make a big stink of it people would just go elsewhere, there's plenty of options.

You guys realize they are going to switch to streaming and downloadable games only eventually? They dont give 2 shits about gamestops used game sales if they arent making anything on them. Its a matter of maximizing profits. I'm surprised they havent done it yet. I guess they are going to milk disc type games as long as they can. But they know its outdated technology.
-
Lol at xbox seriously, their going to fuck themselves over so bad
Also war wins -
first they are going to offer it as an option. Like "COD 7, buy it for $69.99 on Dec. 21, 2012, or download it directly to your xbox on Dec. 15th and beat your friends to the punch" Then slowly phase out the discs. It will happen. Mark my words. The experiment didnt work because it either wasnt marketed right or the people werent ready for it. Kinda like when Laser discs came out and everyone said pffft i didnt collect 2000 vhs movies for that dumb shit. laser discs failed but from its ashes....dvds were born and took over the world. Its a technological certainty....it will happen

There is a lot of things that will happen. Go on record with a time frame, mitt.

I'm not thinking of it as a matter of storage, but rather a matter of Data Transfer. Any big PC release significantly slows down servers on launch dates. I'm even reminded of old WoW updates that were simple 1 gig patches that would take hours because of the user base accessing it. And Blizzard is one of the best in the business and they can barely account for the traffic at times. The console market is 5-10x the base of the PC market so they may want to do it, we may have the capacity to receive it in that fashion, but would the delivery be feasible? Because any 1 game is 7-12 gigs easily(conservative), it'd be an interesting test for whatever new tech is on the horizon should cloud computing plateau.
