I let my cat out last week while I ran my garbage out to the county dumpsters (I live in the country) and he never came back. Since then I've put up flyers, went door to door, gone hiking in thick wooded hills with no luck. I talked with an older lady who said she saw him limping on day 2 or 3, (on day 5 or so) and I've centered my search there since hearing it. I gave her some food that shes agreed to keep putting out, and I walk the area either at dusk or morning, but no luck.

What I'm wanting to do is stick a nature cam where she sets the food out. Ideally it would be battery powered with motion detect and night vision, I'd check it every 7-8 hrs. Is this possible under $1k?
And yes, I realize it's getting unrealistic that I'll find him, but I can't help but picture him hobbling around starving. I'd give my house to find him at this point.
If you have a pet that you let roam free I highly recommend imagining this worst case scenario and asking yourself if you could live with it, cause I sure as hell can't. I didn't let him out for months after I moved out here but he's one of those cats that insists on it. -
Under $1K?? Google "Cuddeback" or "Moultrie" trail/game cameras. They are motion sensitive and have a flash, for 1K you could buy well over 12 of them.

it makes me smile at how much you love your cat.
i hope you find him. -
Ask David Thorne for better flyers

Your life is better without the cat.
If it makes you feel any better, he always hated you.
Seriously tho, if there is any animal that can make it on it's own it is a cat. -
Yeah I felt a lot better before I heard about his injured leg. There are lots of big raccoons around here, my theory is he was injured by oneand ran off. I was actually told by the security around here that my nearest neighbors reported a cougar last year near their house.

Don't have theories like that, Cats are awesome! They will kick ass even with a busted leg! I had a cat that when I was little, left one day and didn't see it for over 6 years then one day it was back like nothing had happened, wondering wtf went on there but cats are fighters, good luck in your search hope you win!

sorry to hear about your cat. speaking of cameras and pets, does anyone know of a website that will allow live streaming using a webcam for free? These fucking kids on my street have been shooting my german shepherd that stays outside with rubber bb's and i can never catch them in the act. basically, i want to set up a webcam and monitor it while i'm at work when the assault happens. thanks.

OP gl with your cat, i hope you find him. cats are veyr smart so i would try to not worry (although i know that isnt possible) -
Look around high in the trees for raptor's nests. Climb trees. Look in nests. Find cat bones.

Good luck with your cat, sounds like a miserable situation. Know that cats are smart dominate creatures and it'll scurry away from any big animal it encounters, think about when you bring a new cat around your cat, its not polite, hisses, runs, ect. So i wouldnt worry about it getting attacked and he will def find a food source. I hope this eases the pain a little, and dont give up the search. Cats are survivors hes still roaming around out there somewhere. Go out there at night and try calling him home with sounds hes familiar with you making or shake cat treats, whatever he responds to, it wont hurt. Even maybe get a couple of metal traps and put cat food and cat nip in it, yea im sure you'll catch some raccoons as well but its worth a shot. Good luck man and keep us updated.
