Lost my job today, unemployment question

    So at the biginning of December I left my old job for a better paying and what I thought more secure job. Well today I was let go, however the heads of the company told me to go file for unemplyment today.

    I have a 5 month old son, I see that I can claim him as a dependant. Now me and my girl get help with daycare from the state. If i claim him as a dependant on my unemployment will i lose daycare?

    I have done a bunch of oogle searches but really cant find much of an answer so i fugured id check this out to see if anyone has some experience with this?

    Hey OP, you clearly are a complete failure in life since you don't own your own ice-selling business. Either start selling ice, or kill yourself. These are your 2 options.

    Are you getting subsidized day care, based on the fact that she's a single mother without support from you?

    If this is the case, yes, you could lose the subsidized cost based on the fact that you're admitting that you're supporting her (ie: listing her as a dependant on UE or taxes. These are Canadian laws tho, so it might be different, although I don't think it would be.

    If you're getting subsidized day care based on both of your salaries, then I don't see how that should change anything.

    Talk to a family lawyer if you want the correct answer.

    Ummm...because unemployment is not permanent? Maybe because he's still looking for a job and doesn't plan on being a stay-at-home dad?

    Thats what there saying. Watch the kid while your unemployed than when you get a job go back to previous daycare arrangement.

    daycare is based on both of our salaries, i let her claim him on W2.

    By the way I'm not looking to stay on unemployment, I want to find a job, but when it comes to providing for a 5 month old baby im not taking any chances.

    What do dependents have to do with UI? Unemployment is nit welfare, it is paid primarily by your employer and calculated based upon wages and length of employment, not family circumstances. At least as far as I know.

    I've been drawing CA max for 13 weeks. Single, no kids.

    Only one person can claim a kid on state unemployment here. It has nothing to do with claiming that same kid on ur fed or state income taxes.
    It should not have anything to do with state day care either. When you go to file your claim ask them.

    Unemployment Insurance Programs vary by state. You might be in Tennessee. He might be in Missouri.

    You should be okay then. UI will be a % of your salary, therefore your situation hasn't improved, and you still require subsidized day care. GL!
