Today I went to the local Chili's for dinner with a few friends. The restaurant was pretty dead, due to the fact it was about an hour until closing. There was one party already there, that we will call party A. Another party shows up, we will call them party B, about 15 minutes after my friends and I. Party A was a group of 7 or so black people. I'm not 100% sure, but I got they vibe they were a family. The youngest was 16+, there was 1 man who looked liked he was in retirement age, and the rest of the group were in there mid 20's. They were sitting across the path were one would walk, in the mirrored booth. Party B was 2 white females who seemed to be in their mid 20's as well. They seemed like a couple of cunts, over heard one being pretty disrespectful to server ect. They were located in the booth directly behind where I was sitting. They are physically a lot closer to my table then party A, but party A was at a much better angle to see our table.

I finish my meal and pull out my wallet to pitch a $20 in, Our total bill was $32. I place my wallet back into my pocket and the server comes back and offers us the option of grabbing some refilled drinks in to-go cups. I thought this was a nice gesture, and decided to pull a few more bucks out to add to the tip. We were already giving him a nice 20% tip, but it was a small tab so I threw $5 more on. Apparently this time my wallet failed to make it back to my pocket and was left behind on the booth in the Chili's. I don't usually have Cash on me, but at this time I had about $150 in there.
I don't realize my wallet is missing until I get home (5 min drive). I rush back and get there right as their are getting ready to close. There are 0 customers. The hostess asks, "Can I help you sir?" I explain how I was there 20 min ago and asked if they found a wallet. She proceeds to the back to check to see if anyone has found it. The nice server I had earlier in the story is the one who comes out from the back and hands it to me. I immediately check it for my belongings, and wasn't surprised the money was missing. I asked if he found it himself, and he said, "no, a customer turned it in sir". I asked a few more questions to try to get a read. I asked if he was the one who cleaned the table afterwards, and he said he was. Then I asked if there was money in it when it was turned in, he responded "no sir". I decided end the questioning, he seemed like he could be telling the truth. Besides, even if he had info, or did it himself, I wasn't going to do anything about it.
Now, as I mentioned earlier, party A has a better view of where I was sitting. I'm fairly certain the wallet was left on the booth seat. I have done this twice with my cell phone before, and it was on the seat both times, but this is the first time I've done it with my wallet. The seats were black, the same color of my wallet. If it was left on the seat, it would have been particularly hard for party A to catch a glance at it. Party B may have been able to see it once they stood up to leave, But was the table not bused by the time they left? Leaving my wallet to be found but by a man who I thought was a kind server?
Wug thoughts OT, Did party A scope it out? Party B find it as they stood up? Or did I get bluffed by the server?
Also, what do you do in the finder of the wallet's position? Bank off my irresponsibility? Or try to score some good karma? -
party A was a group of 7 or so black people
Party B was 2 white females
i got 5 $ on party b + 30000 -

i see the hotdog bum story influenced u to carry cash now

waiter took it. If one of the customers took it, they would just take it and gtfo.
I lost my wallet once after a very drunk night. Got a phone call the next morning that it was at the police station. I expected it to be empty as thats apparently what people do and also because I was at a strip club the night before. I had also been doing cocaine the night before and the bag was not on me when I woke up so I was very scared to go to the police station. Get there, cop pulls out my wallet, and starts emptying the contents. $300 was the first thing I see and then I sweat the cocaine which never appears. Don't know how I left a strip club that drunk with 300 cash. don't know how I lucked out that the person who found the wallet, took it to a police station, didn't take the cash, and that the police didn't take the cash either. and then the final coke no show. -
Edited By: MattElsarelli Oct 6th, 2011 at 10:58 AMafaik he didn't report it to anyone. I was at an angle where I actually saw the girl go ask him first and he just came straight to me, so no one else had it.Originally Posted by Rocky
The Africans would have certainly taken it and not left the wallet.
Did the server report to anyone that he found it? If he didn't that would be might suspicious.
If they have security tapes then obv ask the manager to go over them.
Africans are black.
Why is no one answering the last question???? -
It may not be worded the best, but it doesn't contain any grammatical errors, and it's easily readable to anyone literate.

I'm the kind of guy who gives the money back to cashiers if they overpay me. The kind of guy who won't let a dealer incorrectly pay me. The kind of guy who will tell the dealer they forgot to pick up my losing bet. So I'd return the wallet with money. Scumbags gonna scumbags though.

Your server got a 500% tip
-
I'd give it back with the cash. Be hard tho for 150, but I've done it many times for less.
As far as I'm concerned tho, any cash is the finders fee for handing it in instead of binning it so you get your cards back. And I wouldn't expect the cash to be there if I lost my wallet.
I did lose my wallet once and a guy called me, dropped it to my house and it still had the odd 30 quid or whatever in it... Guy was like 19 year old Ali g type too. You would bet money he was a thief by the look of him. Haha -
losing $150 >>>>> losing your whole wallet and having to cancel all your credit cards, etc
consider yourself lucky imo -
waiter took it for sure, why would the customers even have been near the table to steal the money? maybe one of the bitches took it, but why would they turn it in

also, good move mentioning the 5 dollar extra tip in the op or the ot waiters assosication (OTWA) woulda been up in arms and this thread would have taken a nasty turn -
Waiters and busboys usually dump the wallet after taking the cash - they know that when the customer comes back, they are first to blame if a cashless wallet is turned in. Easier to deny that the customer left it there.

I was gonna take party A but I'm guessing I'm going to have to lay 40k to win a 100, right?
