1. Haven't seen much on here about this fight, but it's this Saturday and was wondering what the general concensus was of this fight and possibly of the card itself?

I'll just post a video I cut off of MMA Live talking about Lyoto Machida post UFC 98. Listen to what they're saying about the chances of the general concensus #2 LHW in the world are against Lyoto Machida.

I, personally, think Shogun is in some serious trouble in this fight for a huge variety of reasons.

This Saturday night bishes! Gonna be AWESOME!
  2. Machida by tko no later then 2nd round.
  3. I am looking forward to this fight. I think Machida wins but he could get caught who knows.
Cain is going to destroy Rothswell, I know Rothwell has a size advantage but I think Velasquez is just going to be to much for him.

Joe Stevenson vs. Fisher is going to be a war. I love the little guys but i believe Fisher will take this one as long as the stay on there feet.
  4. IMHO I feel Machida will always be somewhat an underdog (obv he's the FAV) but what Im saying is, I think that Machida will never get the same level of so called "domination" that someone like Chuck got when he was knocking everyone out.

Machida's style is just so different and with the exception of the Rashad fight, He is the Tim Duncan of the UFC.

Somewhat boring to the average KNOCK out fan, but an amazing fighter with unmatched discipline and Tech abilities at LHW.

I know everyone is thinking Shogun's best chance is his sub's, and even though Nobody has been able to hit Machida, I gotta feel like Shogun is going to test his chin in this fight.

Machida via TKO with 2 min left in the 3rd Round.
  5. Machida, Velazquez, and Fisher. Joe Daddy has not developed any new skills in the last two years, PERIOD.
  6. I'm thinking about betting machida at -400. Is this dumb?
  7. Well, considering that it's possibly one of the best lines I've seen for Machida, I'd say yes. I've seen it for Machida at -600 to -850.

I can't say for a certainty (obviously) that Machida will win, so don't bet based on my word alone, but there's a very good reason why Machida is such a huge favorite. (Reasons, actually...multiple)

Most notably that his resume for the last 3 years reads: nearly 40-something has been, 40-something has been, The Phil Helmuth of MMA.
  9. Well, there's that, but just the person he's fighting against (Lyoto) is, wow... I really can't think of anyone who matches up well against him outside of maybe 2 people (Fedor and Anderson Silva). He's just a stylistic nightmare for pretty much everyone! That and he's possibly the most intelligent fighter we've ever seen (Fight IQ-wise). Lyoto is a guy who has studied pretty much everything! Machida-Karate (which is his fathers modification of Shotokan Karate, and an extremely effective one), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Black Belt), Muay Thai (Studied in Thailand), Wrestling (In Japan), studied Sumo wrestling... And I'm sure he's been exposed to the movements and timing of Capoeira (Basically Brazilian Kung Fu, which we've seen Anderson use a small amount of in his fight against Cote at UFC 90). I'm sure I remember hearing him talk about learning some Judo (though didn't devote too much time to it). So, pretty much anything in the martial arts that has effectiveness, he's studied it, and he's been doing it his whole life! I could go on and on, but that just scratches the tip on why Shogun is in some trouble for this one (and pretty much everyone else in the UFC Light Heavyweight division).

And yeah, Shogun hasn't been the most impressive as of late. His skills have possibly tarnished and he's had the knee injuries and whatnot, and he himself has said he has had some trouble adapting to a cage (It's very different then fighting in a ring for a variety of reasons).

Pretty much, of all the fights on this card, this is pretty much the best choice if you're looking for a lock.

However, (disclaimer, obv) there is always the chance that Shogun can catch him. He still is a very well rounded fighter with excellent skills, he's just extremely unfortunate to run into a guy like Lyoto.

  10. Thanks for the response.

i don't follow mma that closely, but shogun was definitely considered the top light heavyweight by most people before he came to the UFC and got injured. I think he's a tougher opponent than rampage would have been.
  11. Oh, Shogun is definately a better fight for Lyoto then Rampage (Errrr...well, worse, I guess because for Lyoto, Rua is a tougher fight..yeah).

Shogun and Rashad are the two LHWs that I can see doing anything against him for a few reasons. But Lyoto is an awful match for Quintin (don't get me wrong, Quintin is a very, very good fighter). He's very grounded in his strikes and remaines fairly flat footed and doesn't have the really acute body movement and foot speed. Fast hands, but that's the best thing he's got (should that fight ever happen). He would basically, imo, be a sitting duck for Lyoto to pick apart and possibly KO/TKO. He would have to catch lightning in a bottle to take out Machida and I just can't see it happening. (Even the analyst (Franklin McNeal from the vid in the OP, who if you watch the show sucks off Rampage pretty much every time his name is mentioned, says he has just a punchers chance. A punchers chance! I can't even begin to stress how absurd that is. (In a good way) They're basically saying Lyoto is so good that the 2nd best LHW in the world has just a punchers chance to beat him! That's fucking insane!)

  12. the way shogun has been gassing i would imagine machida is going to fight more like his pre thiago/rashad fights and move a lot early on... try to tire shogun out and then look to strike (late in round 3?)... no reason to trade strikes early with shogun when he's a known gasser (not on roids anymore?)...unfortunately that will make for less appealing (to most fans) fight.

he doesn't deserve it yet but i'd like to see tito get another shot at machida... while machida definitely won the fight, tito looked like he finally figured out the distance/angles late in that fight... that was a 3 rounder and maybe machida doesnt let that happen so early in a 5 round fight? idk, but so far tito has given him the best run.
  13. Anyone want Shogun here? cause i'll take machida alll day

  14. Its possible him being a known gasser has something to do with how they train as opposed to no roids now. I don't know, but the way his camp trains is VERY wearing on the body.
  15. machida

that wouldn't really explain ufc gassing issues when he didn't gas as much previously... agree on their training being sick though... loved watching wanderlei's snorkle, vest, nose taped shut training... that was pretty sick

I'm not saying that is why, just pondering it. I mean isn't it possible though that it just built up more wear and tear over time?
  19. If Shogun can somehow hit Machida I'd take Shogun...problem is NO ONE has been able to get to Machida...so Machida TKO rd3
  20. If Shogun comes into the fight ontop of his game/in shape then he will give Machida all he wants. If Tido can damage Machida for a round, a "good" Shogun stands a good chance. That said, im gonna go with Machida for a ko at the 1:48 mark of the 3rd round. Im just hoping Shogun brings it cuz I really want this to be an epic fight.

    Did you see that fight??
  22. IMO the only smart bet in this is to take Shogun (which I still wouldn't recommend.) Anyone who knows anything about MMA will tell you that if Shogun shows up in shape, this will be Machida's toughest fight to date. I think Machida will win tomorrow night, but I def wouldn't put up $400+ to win $100 because he's not that big of a favorite...
  23. Depending on which Shogun shows up this will either be an easy win or his toughest to date in the UFC.

And LOL at Joe Daddy not gaining any new skills in the last 2 years. I guess you didn't watch his last fight.

  25. I wouldnt want to bet on this one. The Lyoto lines are too high and the Shogun Lines arent high enough (oh is that how they make their money?)

But Im pulling for Shogun but I really dont see it happening.

Cant wait to see it tho!
  26. Should be a fun fight to watch, that Evans Machida match seems like it was over a year ago

I'll put up 100 on shogun to your 400 on machinda

obviously would want an escrow to hold the money beforehand, im more of a lurker here so I dont have any suggestions but will agree to anybody I notice posts often and has high credibility, as well some poker success ha so they have no desire to keep the money...let me know and how this works, if u can find someone to escrow, or if anyone here that feels reputable and has no problem holding will do?

Well, if you watch it again, you'll see that Lyotos right shoulder is outside of Tito's legs which pretty much saves him. The position was "cinched" with the exception of that. That pretty much allowed him to escape relatively easily. However, had Tito put it on sooner (And Lyoto hadn't of been able to escape his shoulder), he might have finished it, or Lyoto might have executed the proper escape..
