What is the usually penalty for this when you go to court? I've never had one but me and 9 of my friends got them last night and I just want to know how much its going to end up costing me, the fucking cops were all dicks and all they would say is that they had no idea. This fucking sucks. It has really ruined my weekend. Some people were saying like a few hundred bucks and community service....

Grease your cornhole buddy.
-
MIP mimicking idiotic people? or minor in possession?
but they're the same -
Get a lawyer. A fine and UPS are minor compared to a conviction, losing your driver's license and having it on your "permanent record". You will also want to know about getting your record expunged after it is over. Many employers and schools will count alcohol related convictions against you.
An MIP is not a minor deal. imo

lol neither, get a lawyer, it will be reduced to nothing if its your first offense in anything...200$ fine and about the same for a lawyer...
-
I didnt't get a lawyer and just plead no contest for mine. It cost me less than 200 bucks, with no other penalties, and I still got into med school with it on my record. my record was clean before it.
I would still suggest getting a lawyer and getting it expunged though. -
Anything you get arrested for as long as you are under 18 will be sealed anyway. If you are over 18 ask for pretrail intervention
-
Most improved player? I thought this was an honor, not a charge.
-
Dude, it has the word MINOR in it. Obv it is minor.
-
Um considering the class is usually about $60 and then the whole thing is expunged off your record I'm pretty sure that's the route I'd go! Plus if you're under 17 it only goes on your juvenile which can't be looked back upon once you are no longer a minor.

ty ty all for the advice and fk the haters...
-
i had to pay like $85 and do 12 hrs community service.
-
I got an MIP earlier in the year. But it helped that Im in a college town where they dont care as much.
All I had to do was show up in court, with no lawyer, and just plead youthful offender.
Had to show up to a couple alcohol education classes that the university provided and paid some court fines. Its really not a big deal, youll be fine -
If would flee to Mexico or Canada if I were you!

Yea, do it yourself. It's not worth paying a lawyer $300 to make sure it's done right. Afterall, a kid who is smart enought to get a MIP surely knows the sytem well enough to represent himself. The penalties and consequences for MIPS are changing rapidly and becoming more and more excessive. For all of you who did get by with minor consequences, that's great. A good rule of thumb is to figure our what happened to someone in Illinois when they got theirs and assume that is what will happen to you in Missouri.
-
It's a minor possession of alcohol. Hiring a lawyer for this is just dumb. All it requires is an apperance to where the judge will give you options. It's not like he's facing a felony or something, I mean seriously.

You're right. I'm sure that all the kids who I've had them outright dismissed for would agree with you. lol @ the judge giving you your options. Thanks for making my point. smart guy.
-
lol @ this guy arguing legal advice with willywoo.
-
I would not hire a lawyer unless you have other offenses.
