  1. GG Manny. Hello Bonds?

Maddux flies south | Drew going east
  2. Apparantly red sox made a deadline of noon tomorrow to trade manny. So it looks like he's probably staying. Are there any people who think the drew deal is good for boston? If manny stays next year they will have a very good middle of the lineup, but a 5 year deal for this much seems excessive.
  3. still dont see the benefit in the sox trading manny unless they get a really good pitcher, and frankly there aren't any out there anymore
  4. anybody who has seen drew play on a consistent basis please tell me that there is something more to him than just his mediocre numbers. does he play great defense, hustle every play, is he a team guy that everyone likes? $70 for 5 years, i just dont see it. gg sox

  5. I hate the move to get JD Drew. He is basically Trot Nixon but costing double his salary. The sox's #1 priority should be getting the dice man from Japan. I think having Schilling, Beckett, him, Papelbon, Lester, Wakefield would be a very good rotation.....
  6. Where does Al Leiter figure into all of this?
  7. It's definitley a bad sign when the fans of your rival team are hoping you make the deal (drew that is). Although, assuming they keep manny and sign the "dice man" I gotta think they're the favorites in the east. As a yankee fan it pains me to say that, but they will just have so much depth at starting pitcher. Of course they have no one in their bullpen, other than timlin, worth a damn. So there's that.
  8. I already don't like Drew, heard he has a bad attitude but we'll see. He better play hard or the fans will eat him alive.
  9. 70 Million for JD Drew is a joke. Id rather spend that money on Zito. I dont understand that move at all. I think Willy Mo Pena has alot of upside and the Sox really dont need Offense if Manny and Ortiz are still there. I would have taken a gamble on Eric Gagne.
  10. Drew is more of a run producer than Trot ever was. In a typical season, Drew will get around 100 rbi, to maybe 75 for Trot.

Drew's OBP, a number Theo Epstein covets, is 30 points higher lifetime than Trots.

Drew also will hit for many more extra bases over the course of a given year, Trot was more of a glorified singles hitter with a little pop.

Lastly, Drew was worth this money for his left handed bat. The Yankees are filled with right handed pitching, so why not fill out your lineup with lefties to counter act this? This gives the Sox 3-4 lefty bats (Ortiz, Trot, Drew, and Crisp the switch hitter), a very balanced lineup.

Granted, Drew is known for injuries, so he won't be playing every day, but when he plays, he's a real spark to a lineup, and lefties in Fenway are VERY +EV.
  11. Now add Julio Lugo.

  12. you know whats REALLY facked up about all of this , is that the Sox coulda spent 3million or so more on Judas and he never would of gone to the dam Yankees. so they are like 1 year off in the spending money spree. but glad to see it, money aside (cause they did overpay for drew) but Drew IS an above average player and would fit well i think. now sign the Jap!!!!!!!!!!
