EDIT** latest articles claim cali expects $1.4 BILLION/yr in taxed revenues
^^ this doesnt even address the spinoff industries like hemp, and the 1000s of jobs created as a result. A+++ imo
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/us/28pot.html
another big milestone for the movement of legalization...
San Fran, obv promise land, has taken the 'debate' to the next level, officially.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeee
imo, its inevitable. move to cali
/brag -
I wonder when they make it legal will people buy legal pot at 50$ per ounce more than illegal pot? I dont smoke so just wondering.
-
dealers still gonna deal, people are still gonna buy, imo
-
Im gonna move to cali and be the next phillip morris
-
well prices would drop significantly if they were able to be sold legally and to lots of people, if legalized prices would drop considerably to at least negate the tax. Some people will still buy illegally if cheaper obv but if its like $20-50 less for an ounce it will depend on the buyers risk-tolerance depending on penalties for buyin untaxed bud
-
cali's economy is done, may as well grow pot ya.
-
u sure about that? the current drug trade has very little overhead (trust me I know) after legalization there might be alot of things ditributor have to pay for like licenses, taxes, all types of shit actually. Might drive the price up IMO.

I fail to see why they would drop from current dispenciary prices (about the same as illegal sales prices, maybe even a little more).

If they've crafted the bill well, they'll have included very steep fines and other criminal penalties for selling without a license that will force illegal sellers to up their prices to compensate. This, plus the reduced demand for illegal weed since most/all casual smokers would rather go to their local weed store than seek out some criminal should force illegal prices to rise as well. I don't think it would be as expensive as legal weed, but the two would be comparable. Throw in the likelihood that the most powerful strains would likely be provided by legal growers who can experiment in the open and I think legal weed would do just fine.

edit: what cking said too, weed is already marked up a bunch because of its illegality. This would go away. -

I admit that occasionally in the past I've looked upon California with scorn and derision, but in the case of their lead in moving toward the decriminilization of marijuana use, I have to give them credit.
Sadly, I look for the feds to shut this big happy state smoke-in down real soon, even if that means using the Army and National Guard to take over governance.
The "War on Drugs" is a cash cow for national law enforcement agencies like the DEA, the judicial system and prison systems, who have a never-ending supply of human fodder to process, and then you have all the state, city, county and local law enforcement who benefit from the fines, confiscations, litigations and punishments from the pursuit of pot smokers.
But more than that, the gubbermint has proclaimed to its citizens and the rest of the world over many decades that marijuana is, if not already the root of all evil, would certainly become so if marijuana were to be legalized.
To back down from that grandiose and idiotic stance after all these years would be tatamount to the federal government admitting 1.) It's retarded as shit; 2.) They fucked over the lives of millions of decent, ordinary people; and 3.) What people choose to do with their own money and their own bodies is not and never will be the government's business. -
How much were you selling for buchi? Interested to know if this whole area is absurd or if its just the District
-
well I dont want to say to much about what I was doing............

so lets jsut say it like this:
a person could get a 5LBs of some decent Candian cronic for about $17500
and u could expect to get rid of them for $4000 a piece individualy
Retailers could get as much as 6400 off of each one selling it for 100 dollars for 1/4 of an ounce.
Retailing is dangerous bc u have to deal with so many people. I like the wholesale side of it, Not as much profit but alot faster and less people to deal with -
feds can't afford to get involved imo. the scales have swayed too far, the jig is up imo.
what kind of leveraging they give big tobacco in this is to be seen tho. obv tabacco faces bigger legal problems going forward, and they can't afford to loose $ -
lol at the price going up.

I would love to make it there in my lifetime to take part in this. Looks pretty cool!
and I am loving the Kite up there in the middle of the pic! -
I think if the government did that then we are already fucked and will never be free people. That is a direct violation of constitutional rights and the political backlash would be so much more severe it's really the last thing that would happen.

As for the fact that there is little overhead in selling weed, sure especially on the end of the distributor, however the markup is unreal. I highly suggest watching the documentary "The Union" if people are interested in how the drug trade works -
I go to college in DC...haven't smoked much out here since the best I can find is $60/8th for not that good quality
-
regarding price effects post legalization:
distributors dispensaries etc etc can afford to take the hits of taxing, licenses etc because they are dealing with an unheard of volume. youd have to be fking johnny facking depp to pedal this kinda of reef.
therefore, while they are taking on smaller profit margins, it's still +ev when considering the gov. markups etc.
black markets will def exist in early stages of movement... but thats where it gets really interesting imo, and needs moarrr discussion obv -
Even for a non-smoker the whole ordeal is unbelievable.
-
oh yeah ur gonna get fucked up there. The funny thing is HPT is not that far from there.

I had friends that went to george masson with a lb of some dookie pot they got for like 1000 bux and sold that shit for 50 and 8th. -
Glad to see this I really hope Cali passes the legalization. If so I think we can see some broad sweeping marijuana reform, definitely in the west. I was reading some of the arguments against this broad that is repping the police chiefs and it was laughable. Pretty sure she was saying legalization would somehow strengthen cartels which is absolutely absurd. You know its bad legislation when the people most for it are greedy politicians, dealers, and drug cartels
-
lol at colorado "winning" the movement. not sure what youre even using to measure said 'race'... but cali will def be first state to legalize the sales and distribution of weedz.
we got dankier bounce out in cali too.
