Following what he described as an "excellent" meeting with Manny Pacquiao in General Santos City last Friday, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is confident the megafight the world wants to see between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., will happen next year.
Arum spoke to BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard while being driven home from the airport after his arrival in the United States. He told us he had discussed a possible fight with Mayweather and added "we are optimistic for April next year."

Nope cuz manny fucked around and didn't knock out bradley when he should have. I don't give a fuck if he got robbed(which he did) the fact he allowed it to come down to judges really makes me question the fire he has and diminishes the expectations for any fight. 100% believe Mayweather would work him like a 1790's slave that still has both feet.
-
It should have happened two years ago. These guys are boxers. Their primes don't exactly last long. Now they're both past their prime, which makes it quite a bit more meaningless. It would still be a huge draw and media giant, but it just wouldn't be even close to the same. When you're talking a one-on-one battle in the ring, who wants to see two guys both declining? It's not like one of them is on the rise or at their peak going against the old guard, where one would either win and remain king, or the torch would be passed. It's just two guys, same point in their careers, at a level clearly below where they once were. Fuck that.

This. JMM pretty much destroyed him in their 3rd fight by counter-punching. You can imagine what Floyd will do to him. This should have happened 3-4 years ago when both fighters were closer to their peaks and when everyone wanted to see it.

ppl who pay for boxing ppv get what they deserve. you have to pirate that shit, it's NOT worth the money... unless of course you've got like 15 friends chipping in. then it is prob worth the $5 or whateva.

I love boxing, wish kids these days did as well. I'm over Pacquiao, but this fight needs to happen anyway. No chance in hell Floyd is gonna let this paper go. Feel like he was trying build the suspense for too long and it bit him in the ass. From a pure boxing standpoint I would love to see Canelo Alvarez fight Mayweather although I'm afraid Floyd might lose at this stage in his career.
LOL at buying PPV..laptop connected to TV=WIN. Good quality as well. -
People actually watch these PPV fights alone?
You either get a bunch of friends over and have everyone chip in so it doesnt cost anything, or you go to the bar and watch for free.
Paying for it AND watching it alone is horrendous. -
I'll believe it when I see it doubt it will happpen tho
-
lol, i wasnt talking about 50 people (although we have done that in the past and half the people never watch anyway), but more like 10 people.

To each his own i guess. I like betting my friends on like every fight tho too.
But then again, I also really dont give a fuck who wins in the end. -

i don't see anything wrong with watching them alone. if the fight isn't likely to be really sick i am not gonna leave the house and pay to watch it. i'm way more likely to go watch a UFC fight somewhere but not boxing, fwiw.
u can watch these things online for $0000000000000000000 -
I forgot to mention that ive never paid more the $5 (to a friend or a bar cover charge) to watch any UFC or boxing card ever.

Why would you want to see Canelo-Floyd from a boxing standpoint? Canelo does nothing that would remotely bother Floyd, the only thing he has is a size advantage which he doesn't exploit properly. That fight would do huge numbers obviously, but at 154 Floyd would win easily imo.

I'd rather see Floyd fight the winner of Sergio Martinez/Chavez Jr.

It's still by far the most interesting fight in boxing (to the average joe) and probably the last superfight the sport will ever have and just like what has always been the case, pimpweather is the favorite.

Agree with most everything you said. It's funny to hear MMA homers bash this fight like nobody cares, when it's 4 times as big of a fight as anything the UFC could put together right now. I have a feeling if Arum is talking about April being a distinct possibility, it means Pacquiao told Arum he only has 2-3 more fights before he retires.

i'm no MMA homer, i'm a very very casual MMA fan and i used to like boxing more than i like MMA (never watched MMA before like, 3-4 years ago i'd say)... but boxing is a joke of a sport at this point, and i think that has way more to do with the negative comments it receives today. the sport is more rigged than the 1919 world series. it isn't really because ppl prefer MMA... i know plenty of ppl who just like good fights, regardless of the sport.
with that being said there are obv a ton of MMA homers who are retards out there. it's pretty clear that if this fight goes down like you said it'll draw wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more viewers than any UFC fight. -
I'm an MMA homer in a sense, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good boxing fight. In fact, I don't think there's a single MMA homer alive that hasn't gotten wood to a tyson highlight reel or that doesnt appreciate ali, etc.

It's not 4 times as big, GSP/Silva would do over a million buys. Pac/Pimpweather probably isn't breaking 2.5 so lets calm down just a little bit. I've always hated that argument too cuz it makes no sense. If the UFC put up 1 PPV a year it'd break records too. Just cuz boxing only has one or two PPVs a year and they sell well doesn't mean it gets more viewers than the UFC. Yearly PPV sales for the UFC compared to boxing is probably 10 to 1....it's not close.
Who cares? That's just how it's set up. The UFC can put up a ppv every 3 weeks and get a half million buys everytime so they do....boxing can't so they only have a couple every year.Originally Posted by sketchy1

If the UFC just STOPPED putting up PPVs and 6 months from now had a card with a couple title fights and a GSP/SILVA main event, it'd sell more than any boxing PPV, period. Don't fool yourself just look at the numbers.
The UFC has more stars and therefore can put on a good PPV at least once a month. Boxing has 2 superstars that fight once a year so you get 2 big PPVs a year. Do I really need to keep elaborating on this or is the obvious obvious to you? -
Until reading this thread I had completely forgotten that Manny had even lost a fight. I, like the rest of the world, am now going to go back to not caring about this sport at all.

FUCK BOXING . . . and FUCK MANNY . . . and PRISON FUCK FLOYD !!!
