Wow-according to ESPN
The brawl lasted about five minutes, and it took officials several more minutes to sort out the penalties. Players from both sides appeared to be swinging helmets, and one injured FIU player came onto the field swinging a crutch at Miami players.
More than two dozen uniformed police officers came onto the field, trying to end the fights.
Both teams had five players ejected, though it was not immediately clear which players were tossed.
Several minutes after order was restored on the field, one fight broke out among fans in the northwest corner of the end zone, with more than 12 police officers running into the stands to break up that melee. More officers, including some wearing helmets, continued to surround the perimeter of the field. -

These weren't "fans", this was just your usual Miami gang fight. -

only in Vice City Miami... -
ok BGX, so 100% Miami fault. 0% FIU. gotcha.
Here's what happened. I just got home from the game. Both teams were HOT and FRUSTRATED. Miami SUCKS this year, but FIU definitely lost their cool first after Miami scored. Once FIU started kicking and attacking Miami players, it turned into a goddamn melee. Neither coach has control over their team, that's been evident all year (of Miami) and I expect this to only fuel those who think Coker should be gone.
And yes Miami has ALWAYS had the rep of "a bunch of thugs" and that's why teams have been scared shitless to come to Miami for decades because they're afraid of getting JACKED. Unfortunately the last few years have gone downhill for the U and I hope they'll make some changes to get back to Championship competitiveness.
Also SamENole can eat a dick. The damn fights (not FIGHT, but FIGHTS) broke out due to FIU fans running the fuck around starting shit. Isn't that how it always is? :) -
im pretty sure this whole melee was exacerbated by miami's thuggishness. there is potential in quite a few games for these kinds of fights, but most dont erupt into something this atrocious because other teams have more disciplined and respectful players.
fuck miami indeed. -
Are you saying Miami players are the only players to talk shit during a game? If so, Bobcat, you're clueless. And grow a pair.
-
no, im saying for the most part miami players are some of the few that would overreact to shit talking and try and cave a dudes head in with their helmets. pussies
fuck miami -
The funniest thing about this whole brawl, and the thing Miami fans should be most ashamed of is how big of a pus Brandon Merriweather is, did you see his "kicks" during the melee, they looked more like love taps, what a little girl.
-
Face it, your hate stems from:
"The University of Miami has won five national championships (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 2001), all of which have come since 1983, making it the most successful college football program of the past quarter century." -
LOL rp, yeah I saw that on ESPN. He definitely hits better with his shoulders/head at full speed.
-
Give me a break BGX. Look at FIU's roster, at least two-thirds of their players are from South Florida. Of those, how many do you think wanted to play at Miami but weren't good enough? Add that to a winless season and I would start some shit too. I'm not defending what Miami did, but just because they have a history of this doesn't mean you should scapegoat them.
btw, my friend who was at the game called me up a while ago, and he got in a fight with an FIU fan after the game. Gotta love the OB and that whole area....err, well maybe it's an acquired taste, like cum, PM DaVols2k7 for more info on this... -
Miami is a bigger school, and should have had the 'bigger' players character-wise. I mean c'mon, you're still fighting for an ACC championship. Now you're going to let some of your best players get suspended while the university will have to pay fines to win an ego fight against a team that just became division 1-A? What a fuckin' joke. Miami is garbage, and so is FIU. Good job making the Florida State Criminoles look like a bunch of choir boys.

Are people really making excuses for fighting on the football field? This is supposed to be college football. Id'e be so embarassed if I was associated with those 2 teams (in any way).... It dosen't matter who started it or he said this or she said that. There is no excuse to act like gangbangin thugs on the field or in the stands. Truly a disgusting scene, student athletes my ass!
-
I think we have a problem with society and college athletics in general when people believe one school should have athletes with better character qualities than others. I understand some people cant get into certain schools but I only remember 2 huge melees like this in recent past and they were both D1A games (this one and Clemson-SC) so I dont believe that players in lower standard schools are more likely to be involved in melees like this.
Both teams were responsible and should be held equally accountable. -
huh? So they shouldn't jump in when an opponent is kicking one of their defenseless teammates in the head? And as far fighting for a conference championship, their chances could have only improved after tonight, becuase before they were at 0%. Tonight might have been a wake up call of sorts.
oh yeah I almost forgot...F UF -
both teams were in the fucking wrong here, how can u pinpoint it on jus 1...thats jus plain stupidityu
-
what can u say..Those MIA bois are gutta mane!!!!!! If you're from Carol City or Overtown u are raised to react like this. It's both teams' fault.
