  1. My friend (Cowboys homer obv) Says yes I say no. OT you tell me.

And since i know the people who say yes are going to ask me who is ahead of him so here is a quick list (no specific order)

    Calvin Johnson
    Andre Johnson
    Larry Fitz
    Wes Welker
    Randy Moss
    Reggie Wayne
Steve Smith (either honestly but mainly CAR)
    Marquis Colston
    Brandon Marshall
    Hines Ward
Dallas Clark (i know Te but lets be real)
    Roddy White
    Anquan Boldin

feel free to add anyone i missed or say who doesn't belong above him. and i know i know he had a lot of yards but hey beside Whitten who else was Romo gonna throw to. Also this is based off right now not what could be in the furture. And if im a Homer then so be it
  2. Sidney Rice > Austin
  3. if he puts up another year like last sure, too early imo.
  4. Vincent Jackson

agreed, i tried to keep the list to people i thought ot would agree on. I thought Rice would get mixed results.

and yes i agree if he puts up the same stats or better next year then for sure.

  6. According to this past season... he was a top 5 WR.

So dont you pretty much have to say he is until its proven that he isnt?

Only if your going by yards he was...

my main arguement is that if you took any of the other recievers and replaced Austin with them would they do better and vice versa.

if OP is talking fantasy yards then ya..but if your basing this on who is the most talented then he's not top 10 imo...like someone said still waaay to early to know for sure, and last year he was basically 1 of only 2 targets in a pass happy offense
  9. I would put Sidney Rice, Austin, Vincent Jackson, Steve Smith(s), maybe Colston all in the same vicinity. Sidney Rice had a monster year, and might be above that group, while Austin didn't start until like the 5th (?) week of the season, but still put up big numbers.

Jet's could have signed Austin to an offer sheet in August, giving up a 2nd round pick... brought him up to NY then declined. Cowboys say now that that would have matched, but at the time, it was very questionable that they would have, rather than the 2nd rounder. He only had 18 catches in 2008.

  10. Not top 10 yet. He needs to put up another solid year.

Also, I think Reggie Wayne may be the most overrated receiver most like to put in top 10. Check out his numbers. He puts up huge numbers against weak teams and gets lost against top corners.

When he has Brett Favre throwing him bombs, of course. Take a look at his stats the few years before this past season for a reality check.

I understand what the OP is saying.

Im just trying to point out that he was clearly a top 10 ot top 5 WR this passed year in the most important categories.

Can you really discredit the guy because of the team he was on and the offense he was in?
  14. If I recall correctly, Austin had two MASSIVE games, that really catapulted his numbers. One was against the Chiefs, where the Chiefs D let him slip numerous tackles for huge TD runs.

I'd give him top 15 probably, could definitely think of 10 other receivers I'd want on my team.

Also, Vincent Jackson is a legit top 10 WR, almost elite imo.

and i agree with you that his stats are great. My argument is that of the guys i listed would you rather have Austin over any of them? My friend (once again super cowboys homer) says yes to like 3 or 4 of them

so he's a moron just like most cowboys fans...no big deal, tell him he's the best armchair nfl GM of this century

Take a look at the fact that Rice came out after his Sophomore year and was way to scronny for NFL football during those 2 years you are questioning.

Now take a look at the fact Rice started training with Larry Fitzgerald b4 his 3rd season in the NFL(2009-2010). Fitz has an absolutely sik training regimen because he is determined to become a legendary receiver.

And now for thread relevance... Miles Austin is outside the top 10 imo

  19. I'm a very big Cowboys fan but I don't think he's top ten. Miles is a very good receiver, but he "ran way above expectation" (sry for using poker terms in OT) last year. There were a few games where he just had ridiculous runs after the catch that shouldn't have happened. Don't get me wrong, his year was amazing, but it takes a ridiculous effort to become a "top ten receiver" after one year.

I don't understand the "who else is he gonna throw to" argument because people would have just been double-teaming Austin if there was no one else to throw to, then he would have been fucked. Luckily Witten is a beast and Roy Williams still gets a fraction of the respect he once had.
  20. Numbers say he was top 10 last year (3rd in Yards, 5th in TDs) and he hardly played until week 5.

I think the argument that Romo has no one else to throw is a weak one. A lack of other options would focus the defense on stopping him even more and make his numbers all the more impressive. But really, Witten is an elite TE and the Cowboys had a pretty balanced offense this season. You gonna say that Terrell Owens wasn't a top WR during most of his stay with Dallas? They threw more then..

Austin has the physical specs to be an elite WR... He's built in the mold of Andre Johnson
  21. hes a good number 2 receiver but i wouldnt build an offense arround him being a number 1 guy
