why is grilled cheese associated with lazyness and being lazy? cant remember last time i made a few because when i think of the effort work and cleanup required for this task im instantly over it.
people seem to think u just whip these things up like its nothing. u gotta butter the breads while trying to hold them and put cheese in the middle. i mean cmon butter goes everywhere. and also u know goin into it ur def gonna fuck up and burn the first one if not 2.
am i doing this wrong or on an entire different level of lazyness?
whos feeling me? -
who would dare associate grilled cheese with laziness? blasphemy immfo

Grilled cheese really is as easy as it gets.
Your doing it wrong. -
Making a grilled cheese is one of the easiest things you can do. I have literally made thousands of them. Oh and if you are buttering your bread first you are doing it wrong.
-
You're definitely overthinking the process. Take it one step at a time and it should go seemlessly. You are in your head right now and it will never go right until you take a step back.

butter bread, place side by side on griddle with a slice of cheese on each, remove when golden brown, whats hard bout that? i think where you are messing up is prob placing the bread together and cooking one side at a time and turning it...
-
I had grilled cheese for lunch...
-
I butter my bread first. The trick is to cook it on low or medium/low to melt the cheese without burning the bread. Then if the bread is too soft at the end just turn it to high long enough to crispify.
-
grilled cheese tilt imo
-
obv you butter one slice of bread put it in the pan then throw the cheese on that then butter the other piece of bread and put it on top... flip... put your golden goodness on a paper towel... eat... use said paper towel to wipe out the pan...
grill cheese is easy as tsxxx imo -
i really need to stop replying to these while watching movies and losing money playing poker so i can type faster

Best way to make my ultimate grilled cheese. My secret ingredient:

1) butter the bread.
2) Smear one side of the cheese with spinach artichoke spread stuff (pictured above) and sandwich it between another piece of cheese (I like 2 slices of cheddar or one cheddar and one provolone)
3)Put bread butter side down on pan
3)Place your cheese sandwich thingy on the bread and put the other piece of bread on top butter side up.
4)flip it before it burns and toast both sides golden brown. (if you are doing it on medium heat the cheese should be just melty enough so the sandwich stays in one piece when you flip it.)
5)????
6) eat the cheesy goodness and enjoy.
If you cannot make a plain grilled cheese then you are hopeless. If you can manage to cook ramen you may live for a while but will slowly wither and die with time. -
I have a 98% success rate when making a grilled cheese.
Here is how i make them:
1. Heat pan on medium for about 5 minutes
2. Butter one slice of bread and put it in pan(if you are making more then 1, do same thing for each one)
3. Add cheese(i use 2 slices overlapped so most of bread is covered)
4. Butter 2nd piece of bread and place on top
5. Once the butter begins to "grill" I turn often until I get the desired shade of golden brown.
I think the biggest mistake people make is having the heat too high or leaving them on too long with out flipping them. -
a grilled cheese fail post within 7 minutes has 14 semi constructive replies.
hmmmm, wonder why................. -
I agree with the OP, I grab a tortilla throw some cheese on it and throw it in the microwave for a minute. bam hunger solved

also i usally go with a small sauce pan on the stove, is this another huge mistake? -
Obv butter one side of both slices of bread (preferably rye imo but white or ww will suffice) with room temperature salted butter. butter the griddle, place unbuttered side down on buttered griddle set at mediumish temperature. flip when bottom is golden brown. 2 slices american cheese on one slice of bread, 1 on other. once the other side of the bread is golden brown, flip 1 cheese side on top of 2 cheese side. let sit on griddle for another 10-15 secs for cheese to melt. remove from griddle, cut in half, place on plate. consume. repeat.

Does anyone consider quesadillas the mexican equivalent to the grilled cheese? I'm thinking of throwing some salsa on my grilled cheese next time just to see if it's the same.

My question to the masses is processed or regular
For me I will never eat kraft singles or whatever else those plastic type chesses are on my grilled cheese. I prefer a nice aged cheddar or a smoked gouda -
Cast iron griddle, pad of butter directly on griddle, medium low heat, cook both sides until brownded, adding more butter for other side. Cover with tin foil during cooking so cheese melts.

A grilled cheese and tomato soup has recently become my go to hungover food for lunch.
