God please let someone sign Oliver....worst type A ever.
-
Hell, I'd be shocked if Oliver even declines arbitration, enjoy Texas!
-
Hasn't he been one of, if not the best, lefthanded relief pitcher in MLB over the past four years? Why wouldn't someone want him?
-
He's a type A FA. Any team signing him would have to give up their 1st round pick to do so (unless they have a top 15 pick, in which case they give up their 2nd rounder). I'm pretty sure that's how it works at least.
-
Yeah. Maybe there needs to be a rule that any pitcher with less than 100 IP can't be a "type A" FA. No situational reliever should cost a team that high of a pick in order to sign.
-
No team will be stooopid enough to give up a first-rounder for a situational lefty, which is all Oliver's been for years now.
-
You've identified the problem with the compensation system. Now if MLB can figure it out...
-
almost all closers and top set-up guys never reach 100 innings. Most are type "A" FA worthy.

logic says your right but it happens a lot. -
Worthy? They are probably less valuable than most type "B" & "C" position player FA's.
-
There are no more type C position player FA's fyi.
-
Happy that CC re-upped already, and Cashman just got locked up as well. Nice to go into November with some stability.
Not sure what arm I'd like them to go after - CJ Wilson scares me a bit, but there isn't much out there as far as I know.
Wonder what's going on with Johan Santana - should be interesting to see if he gets healthy, and if he does, what the Mets try to do ; they owe him $24 million for the 2012 season, but 2013 is club option. -
They should be reinstated for pitchers with less than 100 innings and less than ten saves. Really, do teams even need compensation for a bullpen guy other than their closer?
-
I like this with some addition like less than 100 IP in the previous 2 seasons just so injured starters don't get tossed in.

I've been developing quite the Yu Darvish crush through youtube videos the past couple weeks. I'm not going to say it will be a steal for whatever team signs him since he will probably cost about 100m, but I think there's a very good chance that he exceeds that in value. He's 24 and he's basically Zack Greinke right now. -
waiting for this to heat up, especially with the lack of quality starters this year.

Burhrle would be nice
I like cj actually just wanna save the
Money for next year when some studs hit the market... Or just get em both -
The Cardinals don't have room for him, but I'm pretty sure Buehrle has talked about wanting to pitch in STL for a few years now. He's from St. Charles, MO, and grew up a Cardinal fan IIRC.
And there is NO WAY I'd sign CJ Wilson to a long-term deal this offseason...
I've read the Blue Jays have an in with him...this true?Originally Posted by ripomatic

It'd be pretty hard to invest 100M into another Japanese product, considering how badly they've fared in MLB. But this kid's stuff looks downright filthy. -
If the Cards want to sign Pujols, there's no way they're signing anyone other than Pujols this offseason.

I don't think Buerhle would be a great fit in the AL East
-
I don't understand how this works for Oliver now? Seems to me like he is basically fucked and unsignable? What are his options at this point?
-
Not at all. He has to be offered arbitration and decline for the signing team to have to give up a draft pick. Oliver isn't going anywhere else anyways. If the Rangers don't want Oliver back, then he'll definitely retire. The Angels let him go without arbitration because Oliver wanted to play for Texas since his family lives near the ballpark.

1) Carp, 2) Waino (probably won't be good until 2nd half of 2012, but w/e), 3) Buehrle, 4) Garcia, 5) Lohse
If they could somehow bring Pujols back with it, that would be an unbelievable roster...they won't get a "hometown" discount from Pujols this time, but I bet Buehrle would be willing to deal a bit to play for the team he's loved his whole life. -
Who would you rather have: Albert Pujols at his current age of 35, or Mike Trout at 20 years old.
-
Pujols will be 32 next year...
