just finished watching it an hour ago..... it was pretty ok.
-
I liked it but I wouldn't say it was the best movie of 2011
I would recommend that folks watch it very good flick for the end of the evening -
type of movie I love.....human drama with lots of suprise violence(like pulp fiction, inglorius bastards, good bad ugly.)....and WOW IS IT FUCKING OVERRATED. I went in after peoples opinions and reviews expecting it to become one of my favorite movies ever...probably most disappointed ive been with a movie since the departed.
I like Drive....LIKE....is it in my top 100 movies of all time??? nope.
back in september I said I had a MAJOR problem with movie...M A J O R.....but since people might not have seen it i will reserve problem to myself. -
really don't see what was so great about it. I enjoyed Brooks, but gosling just isn't much of an actor. He's a pretty face and decent performer, but just doesn't do it for me. He's like dicaprio but not quite as good at acting... he doesn't MOVE ME GUYS.
The music was very good and the driving scenes were alright, but there was not a real provocative story. And the female lead was not hot at all and couldn't act for shit. I went in expecting great things because people said it was so innovative and original, but I found it to be anything but. -
I really liked it. Been lots of discussions about it in lots of threads!
-
It had that seedy late 80's/early 90's feel to it. I really enjoyed it.
-
I never heard a thing about this movie (apparently I live under a rock) but rented it last night and thought it was really good. Of course, I thought I was renting some sort of Fast and Furious knock off so I was pleasantly surprised.
-
I liked it a lot. With the crap that comes out these days I don't understand how people can't enjoy it. I agree that people that hate this movie prob really love the trasformer movies.

Edited By: ltquick Feb 5th, 2012 at 10:33 PMYep, almost like an homage to the Michael Mann films of the 80s with a nod to Bullitt/The French Connection/To Live and Die in LA in the way the chase scenes were shot. So what if the director Refn puts style over substance, it was still a very enjoyable movie.Originally Posted by Moonlight Graham

Saw it last night. I r semi disappoint.
Expected more driving, too much drama with the chick. It was like a flashback to dexter meeting his girl. They did a good job of raising tension tho but it would go too long.
I enjoyed the violent parts and driving. Didn't even see her tits ffs.
I liked Albert brooks in that role too.
So in summary...needed sex, needed less filler drama tension, needed more driving and I thought the music was crap. I had to mute some of it. (insert your too old rip here. Not too old to remember good music tho.)
It started strong, the middle was kinda semi weak, decent finish. Would've took the money at the end tho. What point is there letting the cops pocket it? It's LA!
It had a lot of potential but didn't reach it. Kinda had a michael Mann feel to the directing and choreography which isn't a bad thing.
Just my opinion. -
Watched it last night. skisteve sums it up perfectly. I was pissed that the stock car never made it to the track as well.

Its one thing to not like this movie, but I question your perceptions when you think that Gosling and Carrie Mulligan are both shitty actors.

fixed it, i enjoyed it thoroughly and thought it was well cast, Cranston and Perlman were the highlight for me.
agree that it could've had more action and not been semi-ruined by a love story. I would've preferred to have seen it done in a episodic format, as opposed to a single film. A great character driven (lol) story like that could turn out to me a modern, American, live-action Initial D. -
I don't know, I thought it was more Thief than Heat. I also thought there were a lof of nods to To Live and Die in LA (especially the car scenes and the whole LA River channel scene was almost like an homage to that film). I thought it was heavily influenced by 80s flicks, even the synthesizer-laden soundtrack and the pink credits.

what the hell would you go and do that shit for?

Watched b/c of this thread. Liked it for sure. The moments of nothing but eye contact were amazingly powerful and somewhat uncomfortable. The only thing I didn't care for were the gaps in story. Like, what was Gosling doing before LA? and what the hell is supposed to happen next?! I understand leaving some of the wonderment to the viewer but this dude needs some GAHT-DAMN resolution!!

Just watched it because of this thread.
It was weird, it felt rushed and slow at the same time. And the ending was meh.
I feel like this was the type of movies critics would love because how it was shot and all, but it left me feeling like they could have done better.
Overall tho, i liked it, and ill jump on board by saying i thought the soundtrack was awesome.
Id also like to point out that i didnt know much about this movie going into it, so i wasnt expecting it to be the way it was. And actually, at one point, maybe a third or half of the way through, i thought to myself, "this is great." I just wasnt a fan of how they wrapped it all up. -
not sure if its been said, but who leaves the cash like that? no one
