Here's a thought, what if we turned off every air conditioner, freezer, refrigerator in the world and opened all the doors?

Saying scientists have proved global warming is something else.
Saying scientists have determined the earth has warmed is the truth.
Saying humans are THE cause of the increase of Earth's temperature is logical because our technological advances hinged upon the Industrial Revolution. Industry = CO2.
Regardless of the cause of why Earth's temperature has increased, warming temperatures = ice melting. Ice melting = water level rising. Water level rising = coastal cities flooded.
We know we contribute more greenhouse gases than the Earth is naturally able to absorb, so we can do something about it. It may not stop a natural warming cycle, but if it could slow it down, why not try? -
Someone said it earlier and I agree.
The minute the biggest global warming fear monger (Al Gore) stops flying around in a private jet is the moment I will at least consider that he isn't completely full of shit and just latching on to this faux-cause because it makes him boat loads of money, which allow him to purchase more private jets.
Its akin to the leader of PETA running around with a mink coat, snake skin belt and a crocodile skin boots. -
Because "trying", at least according to the champions of the cause will require a MASSIVE infringements on my rights to live as I see fit.

Since the best leaders lead by example, I refuse to listen to hypocrites like Al Gore and Barack Obama on this issue since they refuse to change their own lifestyle based on this supposed threat.
I have no problem with politicians latching on to one side of issues like gun-control or abortion but when they take up a cause like this and it starts to have a huge impact on MY life, that is where I draw the line. Especially when they are full of shit. -
wrong wrong wrong and wrong

This unprecedented upswing coincides exactly with the beginning of the industrial age in which fossil fuels and other carbon compounds are being burned at an almost unimaginable scale, forests are being cut down at rates never before seen and the number of humans on the planet has grown exponentially.
The earth does go through natural carbon cycles. The temperature of the earth varies accordingly. However, unless you are willing to believe that all of the above is simply the most incredible coincidence in the history of ever and/or that all the scientists reporting these things are involved in some sort of massive conspiracy (to do what, exactly? I don't know) there is no other conclusion but that the present upswing of carbon is caused or at least accelerated by human activity.
population has experienced linear growth. just ask paul erlich and al gore. pretty sure the Population Bomb guaranteed 14billion plus if we were growing exponentially.
we don't have 400K records.
30K scientists say global warming isn't man made.
you're an asshat. -
my exact point, i think many agree that our protien rich diet alowed us to evolve in the way we have. And still hasnt answered about the winter and the fact that if we had enough plants to feed everyone we would have to kill a ton of animals, and maybe we would run low on both C02 and 02

certainly cannot disagree with that statement.

curious how some of this may infringe on how you want to live? -
you do know they want to build a "smart-grid" to control the temps in our houses don't you?
and we will be pushed into green cars, green everything for that matter. Plus we'll be forced to pay more for anything produced that causes CO2 emissions (pretty much everything) -

Kinda doubtful you'll recheck this thread, but they have data on this by drilling out huge cuts of ice from Antarctica primarily. They can analyze how much CO2 is trapped in bubbles the ice and from there determine how much was in the atmosphere. Also, one of the ways they can tell what the global temperature was like 400,000 years ago is by melting the old ice cores that they get and examining what the proportions are of 1H hydrogen and 2H hydrogen among the water molecules. Water containing 1H hydrogen evaporates faster than water containing 2H hydrogen, so the higher the concentration of 2H hydrogen is, the hotter it was and vice versa

looks pretty exponential to me
Yes we do.
Sweet ambiguous phrase. What sort of scientists? Climatologists with Ph.D's? Geologists? Zoologists? Physicists? Aerospace Engineers? Political Scientists? Dudes with chemistry sets in their basement? I'll refer you to UD's question: Can you name a scientific body of national or international standing that disputes that climate change is anthropogenic?
Oh yeah?? Well...you're a poopy face!!! (no offense, p00py) -
How fucking unduly rude. So it turns out it's a myth that the earth being flat was what most people believed, fair enough, I retract that statement. I think perhaps I misinterpreted the point Fewway was making in response to Underdog's comment anyway. Apologies all round.

I notice from posts we've both made ITT that it probably comes across I have somewhat opposing views to you on this subject. Is that why you've latched on to the one faux pas typed by me (and let's face it, mistakingly claiming that everybody thought the world was flat is hardly an error worthy of such condescension)? To discredit an apparent 'opposition's' viewpoint? Otherwise your statement seems unnecessarily antagonizing with it's assumption that because someone believes a common myth, they don't have an 'appreciation for facts and history'.Originally Posted by Magnet Steve

Check me out, all riled up and whatnot.
