She is almost 70. Are you frigging kidding me?
The cashier apologized but said it is their policy. I thought she was kidding until she made everyone wait for my mom to get her ID.
Give me a break... -

**or the teenagers getting high off Nyquil? -
So your mom is either Raquel Welch or Morgan Fairchild. Definitely need pics.

person likes and wants to guarantee the safety of their job

Meth heads don't make the laws or company policies...
-
don't they scan the ID's at Target? Probably have to for every transaction. Small potatoes imo

probably pissed the customers off more when your grandma wrote out her check for 5 minutes -

Oh geez, Dyz. I was being tongue-in-cheek there lol It's a stupid policy. My point is that people do dumb things that make companies and the gov't feel some ridiculous need to protect people from themselves. It's ridiculous.

**Apparently you weren't the only one who thought I was serious... Just realized I said ridiculous twice in that sentence if that gives you any indication of how I feel about the policy ;) -
computer prompts the ID check when barcode scans. and its not like some supercomputer that knows who is standing there. I get carded for everything and I look like i'm over 50. only way to override is to get supervisor which will be alot slower then her taking out her ID. if this is the worst thing that has happened to you today you lead a charmed life

You do realize that you aren't carded for your age, right? You are only allowed "X" amt(like 2 bottles/wk, for example). The store is supposed to keep a written record of all psuedo-ephedrine products sold. Most stores have a clipboard w/ a piece of paper listing name, DL#, etc and you are supposed to sign for it.

Reason: logbook tho -
In order to not get carded for cough syrup you have to be 2 things.
1. Clearly over 18.
2. Clearly not a broke ass drug addict.
Looks like mommy only meets 1 of the criteria. -
This is true. Isn't this a law? So, it's really a gov't policy, if so...

Companies are not trying to protect you from yourself, they are trying to protect themselves from your lawyer after you commit said dumbassery.

Reason: not you personally, ECU . . . -

Yeah, it's an FDA law. It's regulated differently by state tho. For ex, in NJ, they just limit the quantity sold. Some states require all psuedo products to be behind the counter etc.
It's actually called "The Combat Methamphatamine Act of 2005
http://www.fda.gov/drugs/drugsafety/.../ucm072423.htm -
It's a law for pseudoephedrine. Each state has their own limit. And on top of that, some require a prescription for pseudoephrine (You CANNOT purchase it OTC regardless of age in these areas). I currently practice in a region that does not allow OTC pseudoephedrine sale. However, if I drive up to the middle of the state, I can purchase it OTC style.

The entire state of Oregon was the first to require it via prescription irrc. And they have already produced studies and results that show that requiring a prescription for pseudoephedrine greatly reduces methamphetamine production in the area. In fact, I think meth lab busts were cut in half...I'll see if I can find a chart of something.
Either way, I'm not trying to argue either side of the spectrum; just giving a little info -
Thank you to The War on some Drugs.

Yeah, I thought it had something to do with Meth. It just pisses me off because Sudafed used to be the one medication that could knock out a cold for me. Can you even get it anymore without an act of Congress? I mean, yeah, there are worse things to worry about in the world, but still a pain in the ass.

Thanks Luho. Interesting for sure. -
If it's the law then I still contend it's stupid. The cashier said she needed to check ID because it contained alcohol.
I just assumed they could do like the wine store next store and simply hit the "over-ride - this person is clearly waaaaay over 21" button -
Why is Adderall not available over the counter?
-
I highly doubt your cough syrup had pseudophed in it. Probably just dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, maybe some tylenol. but yes, most cough syrups contain alcohol. It's the diabetic cough syrups that do not contain alcohol. The thread got derailed from your product that your mother was purchasing.

yeah, good luck finding that. No way you can do a scientific study or provide facts on something like that. It's one of those things that will always give people reason to say it doesn't actually work. Just the way it is. All you can do is work with the facts you can actually obtain
because you touch yourself at night -
I assumed when he said "cough syrup", that he prob meant "cold medicine w/ psuedo". I couldn't imagine the cashier IDing a 70 yr old. Simply assumed it was for logging a pseudo product.
