Ok so I just got back to the states after spending a month travelling in Thailand. I stayed in 3 major areas(Phuket, Bangkok, and Chiang Mai) and a total of 7 different hotels. I was travelling alone but knew some 2+2ers there and met others, who were a huge help(plus gave me people to party with!).

Will write about some of my experience and will gladly answer any reasonable questions.

edit: fuck as I start writing I realized this could get redic long so will start with some cool shit from each place and maybe add on later.


1st week- Bangkok



-1st day in Thailand

Booked a full week @ Dream Hotel in the middle of Bangkok, cost was $75/night and it was a pretty nice place. Got in at 7am after a 18hour flight direct from LA, after a 1 hour hop from Vegas. Soon as I got in I got some food then started wandering around. One thing I saw right away about thailand is especially in the tourist/hotel areas there are tons of people trying to sell you stuff- these people basically prey on tourists and even if their stuff seems cheap, its more than you should be paying. There are very few chain/big stores in general, tons of small cart type stands all over the place selling everything from clothes to all sorts of food. After walking for a while I remember getting some meat on a stick from one of the small food carts. I pointed @ what I thought was beef and then some chicken. chicken was good, and I still have no idea wtf it was the other thing I ate was, it sure wasn't beef.

After wandering most of the morning went back to the hotel and got some sleep because tonight was sorta the big go out night for the 2+2ers in BKK and I didn't want to miss it. 19 of us met @ a Korean restaurant which was luckily right near my hotel. Had a good dinner and then most of us decided to flip for the bill.Someone had a deck of cards, so we each got 2 and dealt out 5 cards...I flop bottom 2 and hold WTF :( so I lose a 19 way flip my first night. After dinner we all head to a G club called Florence. The easiest way to explain what a G club is, is this: you go with a group get a private room with TV/karaoke and music, order bottles then they bring in a lot of girls(they brought in at least 50 for us) and everyone picks 1(or more). The girls hang out and drink with you all night(for most part they are not hookers althoughsome could be persuaded for a lot of $$$ probably) . our table @ dinner decided to secret santa for our picks, so everyone picked for someone else. I got a rly cute girl(they are all pretty cute imo, some were smoking) but she was a nit and didn't drink. Rest of girls drank pretty hard as we started playing drinking games. It was still a really good time, and the total for room+ booze for 4? hrs for everyone, plus girls was around 4k baht which is about $120 US. After the place closed we went to an after hours club with a few of the girls, all of us pretty drunk. This particular place has a lot of freelancers(part time hookers), but I spent my time hitting on one of the G club girls who was quite drunk. She wandered off right before it closed, and now I'm horny, drunk, and alone. So me and one of the guys decide to do a lap around place as it closed to see if any girls were worth grabbing, he found one I didn't, pickings were slim. Well the guys had told me I was only a few blocks from my hotel so I decided to start walking. Of course I'm hammered, in a place I've never been, its dark, and in a foreign country. After a block decide to grab a taxi, tell him name of hotel and he nods so I get in. After about 10 min he pulls into some random hotel and runs in, to ask directions...another 10min and he makes it there, then charges me 200 baht($6) when had he ran the meter and known where to go it would have been 35. I was so happy to finally be back I didn't care.

-2nd night

Some of the guys who I had met the night before were heading to RCA which is this big complex with a bunch of night clubs. Thai clubs are a bit different than in America, the entire main area/dance floor is covered with small tables which are big enough just to hold a bottle, ice, and some mixers which pretty much everyone gets. A bottle+ ice+ mixers might run $85ish US.The club was packed since it was Friday night, made it kinda tough to move around a lot. Was still pretty fun. Afterwards few of us went to Scratch Dog which is an afterhours club that I ended up going to like 4 or 5 times during my trip(not too many after hours places in bkk, normal clubs close at 1 or 2).Pretty sure I walked back to my hotel afterwards and had some awesome chicken from a street cart on the way.

4th night

Decide to check out another G club with some of the guys I had met the first night, called the Bank. I think 6 of us went and another met us there later on. They give us this small room barely big enough for 6 of us to sit, let alone for another 6 girls cause they were busy. Since the room was so small not many girls came in for us to pick, I sat there and didn't make a quick pick so ended up with a cute but not hot girl. After a little bit we move to a better room and we are all drinking pretty heavily. I remember sitting next to a guy called "Asa" which fucked with me cause enough people call me Ace or Acer when we go out. My girl seems totally into me, as night goes on we are making out, fooling around etc...its a little weird since ur in a room with other people but as people start drinking everyone is kinda doing their own thing with their girl and not looking around. No it was not an orgy or anything lol. I would say the girls don't go any farther than mine did. So she seems totally into me and I obviously wanna ship her, however at end of night she says she has to go home cause she lives with her Mom or something, and I get her number. Day later I txt her and see whats up, she wants me to come back to club and I'm like FU bitch, ur done.

6th day

Did some tourist stuff, went to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun(buddist temple) which was pretty cool. Most of my bkk pics are from this day.

Chaing Mai

Chiang Mai is Thailand's 2nd biggest city, and is north of BKK, about an 1:30 flight I think. While it is a city after bkk it felt like a huge town to me, as there were no skyscrapers, insane traffic, huge malls and shopping, etc.Same as bkk, soon as I got into my hotel(a Holiday Inn on the outside of town) I started wandering. There was this local market nearby so I walked through it, one huge thing that stood out to me is that couple stands had meat for sale, raw meat sitting out all day in 80 degree heat, open to the air. Other strange stuff there were bees, or some other kind of insect being sold alive. Made me wonder about some of the stuff I had ate but whatever, I didn't get rly sick or anything from the food the whole trip. It does fuck with your system a bit though.

2nd night

A couple of the guys I had met in BKK live in CM and had come back so met up with them and went drinking. Hit up a club called Fabriuqe(sp?) where i had my first ladyboy encounter. At a normal club like this they are pretty rare, but I guess I danced back 2 back(she/he was @ table next to ours) with her for a bit and wasn't paying attn to the no go signs from my friends. Thankfully they stopped me before it went any farther. This caused my ladyboy radar to be up for the rest of the trip, and I'm pretty sure I can tell one almost everytime now. After this club we hit up a Karaoke place(basically a crappier G club where girls dont drink). After we left at 5 or whatever they were gonna ride their motorbikes(most popular mode of transport in thailand) home, and told me the Holiday inn was 2 blocks away...uh oh! Im rly drunk so start to walk anyways, thankfully one of the girls saw me and gave me a ride back on her motorbike. It was pretty simple to get back but super dark so i mightve made it on my own but am very glad she helped out.

After that night I moved to a hotel in the middle of the city called De Naga, the holiday inn kinda sucked and was too far out. One thing I did not like about CM was that the easiest area to stay in, which some english speakers @ hotel and restaurants and stuff was rly busy as it was high tourist season, Thailand gets a lot of european tourists. Most of the poker players I met in Thailand prefer thai places and hate tourists and I could see why.

5th day in CM

Signed up the day before for a 1 day "trekking" trip. Included a elephant ride(they use elephants for logging normally) through the jungle, 2 visits to thai villages, lunch, some walking through the wild, and a bamboo raft ride. There was a van that picks people up from the hotel, and I met 3 young Americans in there, ended up hanging out with them during the day which definitely was a lot more fun than if I had been alone. Elepahnt ride was cool, we went through the jungle and up and down hills and shit. At the end of it we fed the elephants. As I(and later, others) went to pet the baby elephant(pic) it would start to nudge your leg hard and push you around, trying to play with you. However the thing still weighs a bunch and I wasn't in the mood to wrestle with it, lol. You can see a couple pics of it pushing me around.

The authentic Thai village thing was a scam. They try to pass off the same dumb souvieniers that they sell in town as "native handycrafts" that your supposed to buy to support these poor people. Except they had a couple motorbikes and I saw a TV dish. Afterwards we had lunch nearby where I had curry spashed in my eye, burned for a bit but otherwise fine. Then they took us on a walk to a waterfall where you could swim but I didn't know about this so didn't swim as no bathing suit. There were multiple other tour groups of 10-20 there, clearly many groups run the same type of tour. Euros in speedos = gross btw. We did a 30min or w/e walk back to the van then drove a short ways to bamboo raft place. Its kinda cool, raft sits just in the water when there are people on it, and they take them apart when they move them from end of raft trip to the start. Whole day costs like $30 US so its cool but the village parts suck. I heard there is some backpacking trip that is like 4 days that goes to ACTUAL native thai villages. btw when I say native I don't mean they have been there forever like native Americans, but that they are a isolated people who have been living in the same small area fora long time.

Phuket

Decided to stay in Patong Beach for 2 nights. Patong has a decent beach but it was super crowded with euro tourists, almost all of whom were 40+ and fat. Saw a couple topless, and if there was ever such a thing as bad topless, this was it. I had a rly bad cold while here, so went to the beach to chill during day but didn't go out at night. Patong has a famous red light district/street called BangLa road. Basically one big street closed off to traffic and bunch of side "streets" with beer bars and gogo. Saw some tourists with little kids walking down this street @ night whichis fucked up in my mind. I don't know of a good US equivilant, but it would be way worse than taking a 7 year old down the strip in vegas on NYE or some other huge party night.

day 3

Moved onto Kata Beach which is about 15-20min from Patong. Nicer beach, still a lot of tourists but not as bad as Patong. Nicer town overall as its not centered around a redlight/tourist area. In Patong I felt like I was in some eurpean beach town that they imported a bunch of thais to work at, Kata was still a tourist spot but not as bad. 1st night met some 2+2ers, struggled to find them at first but there is one main road near the beach so just kept walking till I found where they were at.They were at the one redlight/degen area in Kata, a collection of beer bars and some dirty massage places. For those that don't know beer bars are bars that employ girls who you can "barfine" which is money given to the bar to take them home, then you pay more $$ to the girl. The standard rate is $10-20 US for barfine, $60 US to girl for the night. I wasn't in the mood to grab one of the girls is I had some of the worst sunburn of my life on my chest and shoulders from being on the beach past 2 days, plus was still getting over the cold. Places closed @ 2 and we went to a normal bar nearby that basically never closes. I took off around 4 and decided to walk back to my hotel, maybe was a 15 min walk. I even knew where I was going this time! On my walk back, I got harrassed from a ladyboy hooker on motorbike, who had a linebacker build. She apparently wanted me to take her home and I wasn't interested...eventually she gave up and took off.Little scary as area I was at then was dark and in back of mind I'm wondering if theres someone nearby waiting to mug me. Made it back fine though :)

night 5

Met up with the same guys @ the bar we ended the other night at. Had a few drinks, then went and got some food. Decided to go back to the beer bars since we were nearby. The beer bar area we were at is called the "night bazzar", idk why. Its basically a area with like 10 oval shaped bars next to each other in one big area, with 2-4 girls @ each either chillin @ the bar or dancing up on the bar. As we walk into the middle this hot girl runs up and basically jumps on me, so as guest they let me pick that bar.We start drinking and playing games(they have games to act as icebreakers with the bargirls) , I hadn't played connect 4 since I was like 6, but me and my girl play and since she was a huge fish I won like half the games. Other guy had a girl he was playing jenga with. Bar had 3 girls and there were 3 of us(iirc) but 3rd one was kinda busto looking so guy wasn't interested. We are having a good time even though my girl spoke only a few words on english. Decide to take her back to hotel, so pay barfine and we leave. Go back to the hotel, both shower, then have some of the best sex of my life.Go to sleep, wake up at like 10 since I'm checking out @ noon, and we have sex again. From what I've heard morning sex isn't std in general but if the girl likes you its on. Not as good as night before but still decent. As shes in bathroom I leave the $$ next to her purse. she says goodbye and leaves, never asking for more, not asking to stay longer, etc. I kinda regret not taking her with me to Koh Phi Phi, but hindsight is 20/20.

Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi is actually a collection of islands about a 2 hour ferry boat ride from phuket. The islands are rediculously beautiful, one of them was the site for the movie "the Beach". Most of the lodging on the island were bungalows, 1 room + bathroom rustic buildings. I stayed @ the viewpoint resort...viewpoint cause it was on a hill almost as far from the beach as possible. Phi Phi has a lot of group oriented stuff to do and a lot of day tours that include scubba, sharks, different beaches and islands, etc. Kinda sucked to be here alone but whatever. One of the days there I rented a kayak and kayaked from the main beach to a isolated beach nearby called Monkey beach. This is cause its only inhabitants are monkeys! They are generally pretty nice cause they are used to tourists(all the day trips stop here), but can get angry and chase people which was pretty lol. I'm glad I caught a piece of advice online and brought some bananas for them, which they would come up and take out of your hand.

Back in Bangkok for a week

1st night back

Stayed @ The Pan Pacific hotel which was a 5 star hotel I payed like 110/night for which imo was a pretty good deal(especially compared to their normal rates of like 300/night). Got there at 4, went out to check out the area after taking a shower. After a while was hungry and realized I was right in front of a irish pub/restaurant I had gone to when I was here a few weeks before. So I went in, and the second I sat down another poker player who was visiting from vegas walks in, and I join him and another guy there. Ends up being a group of 7 that leaves there after some snacks and drinks to go to a korean( i think lol) restaurant in chinatown. We ordered a whole roasted baby/little pig, and the way it was served is that they roasted it, brought it out and we ate the skin, which you could wrap with some sauce + veggies like peking duck. then they take it back finish roasting it and carve it up. They brough out 2 bowls of pork, one just roasted I think the other deep fried so it was like bacon. pretty tasty. We ended up going to a few clubs that night, nothing too crazy, I took a cab back to my hotel around 4-4:30. My taxi did not know where it was, and I had only been there for about 20min so while I knew approx where it was I didn't know exactly. I tell him to drop me off in a spot that I knew was nearby, and figured I'd find it on foot. Looking back this probably wasn't the smartest move, wandering around drunk @ 4:30am in bangkok trying to find my hotel. After about half an hour(i guess) I found it.

4th night back in bkk

Group talks about doing a "bar crawl" which is basically we all do 1 drink @ a gogo bar on soi cowboy or nana plaza(the 2 big red light areas in bkk), and then move onto a new place. We CCR at each place for the bill, and the loser got to pick next bar + what the next drink would be. Oh wait, I forgot that before we even met up for the bar crawl around 8:30-9, few of us went bowling @ 5, where we drank a bottle of whisky there. Bar crawl was fun, saw some interesting stuff thats for sure. The gogos vary from hot chicks in outfits dancing, to totally nude girls just chillin on stage waiting for a guy to pick them. One of the locals who lost picked a ladyboy bar, where we went and had a double at. Some were a little scary but we got him back by paying a ladyboy 100baht($3) to go up and grind on him from behind. We made it through like 6 bars @ cowboy then 5 at Nana i think. Then we went to Scratch Dog(mentioned earlier). Soon as we get our table I start hitting on this cute short girl at the table next to us. I get asked the worst Q's possible: do u speak thai? and do you live here? answered no to both. Her+ friends were leaving soon after we got there, got a # but nothing ended up happening with it which sucked because I figured getting a # even after I answered no to both was a rly promising sign. After scratch dog closed we went to a after after hours place that had a bunch of freelancers+ some norma girls there. 4 of us who started drinking @ 5 are still going at 6am, although they almost did get into a fight while we were playing pool with some girls there. Leave @ 7am and its light outside, lol.

5th night

Wake up hungover and feeling like shit early, at like noon cause I suck @ sleeping. Play some poker and eventually feel good enough to go get some food. Hear some of the guys are going to a trendy club called bed supper, stomach feels pretty meh but I only got 2 days more so fuck it I brave it. Eat some food right before I get there around 10, and take it a bit easy on the drinks. Felt fine at the club, which has bed type sofas around the outside of the dance floor + on a 2nd level overlooking the dance floor. It has a few rich thais, some super obv hookers, and bunch of white people which sucked. After we get there waiter comes up and asks us to share our table with some chicks, although they would be standing, we'd keep sofa beds. We don't rly care so said it was cool. Turns out they were 3 older women, in the club I guessed like 35ish. They chill by themslves for a while, I sat on the sofa for a bit, was crowded on dance floor + no normal thai girls meant I wasn't rly interested. Lot of guys too, thai clubs let in anyone who pays, there is no weening out to help the girl/guy ratio. So I'm just chillin on the sofa and one of the older chicks starts hitting on me, she has a nice body kinda meh face so I start chatting with her. We are getting along good, she speaks a bit of english, not good but enough to get by. She asks me to guess her age, and obviously I make some funny low guess, I know better than to say a real guess. She tells me 43, which rly surprised me. I realized now that I have to ship her, as I've never hooked up with a cougar and this could be my only chance. Without saying anything I'm pretty sure thats what her intentions are too. Her friends want to leave to go get food and invite me, and I join them. Her friend drove us there in a bmw(which costs more in thailand than the US, means she has money. We eat some food, they pay for me! and then me and cougar leave to go back to my hotel. At the hotel as we walk past registration they ask to see her ID, which afaik they normally will do for bargirls so bargirls dont steal shit, not sure if they do it for random guests or not but they did for her(brag that she looked good enough to be considered a working girl?). We get back around 2:30, fuck, she hangs out for a bit and we talk which was a little tough since she didn't speak a lot of english but we managed, then she leaves around 3:30 to go to work @ 6, lol real world jobs. No #'s given, no attachment, etc which is very unusual for thailand from what I've heard, guess it was cause she was older.

Stayed one more night which was spent in, recovering from some heavy fucking partying. <3 BKK.

I've been living in Bangkok for 7 months and every day is still and adventure. I'm teaching English but anyone could easily live here comfortably for about $1k (30,000 baht) a month. I know I do.

I was told by a thai person that at least it probably wasn't dog, as dog is more expensive than other stuff(cause its outlawed). Forogt to mention the best street food(imo) was the fresh fruit, vendors everywhere had pinneapple, mango, and other fruits on ice, and would cut some up and serve it to you in a plastic bad w/ a long toothpick to eat with. best pinneapple I've ever had, and it was cheap. Just payed $4 at whole foods for a thing of pinneapple that would have cost like 60 cents in thailand, and it won't taste nearly as good.

and you gotta try new things! I tried a ton of new food during the past month, loved pad thai, but my favorite was probably this red curry with chicken I had in bkk. I hope you like seafood, its huge in phuket and is obviously super fresh.
