Jaybone got the community pumped about getting dedicated and into shape. Like J, I finally got to a point where I was uncomfortable with myself (although not extremely overweight) and needed to change. I started December 28th and finished up on April 1st. I am currently on my third day of round 2 where I plan on just putting on more muscle by pumping up my diet this time around.

i'm a lurker for a reason..
Camz...thanks man. Literally EVERYONE has said "you didn't have that much weight to lose". The truth is you lose it everywhere, on your arms, legs... -
At this point, i wish i would have taken more before pics. I never thought my change would be as significant as it is. Yours looks great too man. The feeling you get after doing all that is awesome.
Im looking forward to see where i can go from here. Good luck to you too man. -
I didn't do the diet by the book when I finished it, but I followed a "lose it" app that told me how many calories I could have per day...I also drank protein shakes after every workout.
I did it to get in shape for my wedding, and it really does work...I've gotten back out of shape now, and need to start again. I've been running, but I need some strength/endurance/cardio exercises that are different.
Congrats, OP...solid work. -
yea really nice work, OP.
these threads make me feel all warm inside. -
p90x and insanity are the truth. nice job OP.

I was EXTREMELY strict on the diet, probably too much in fact. Before starting I was taking in around 2500 cals/day. For nearly the entire program I was averaging 1300cals (I will post what my day eating-wise looked like). If you figure in the workouts, I was probably netting approx. 600 cals or so per day and taking in >125g of protein. The weight fell off pretty quickly. I even got as low as 169lbs which was a bit light for my 6' frame.

this needs more love
Thanks for the love guys. Like JRoth said, it really does work. I needed to do it because I needed to have a solid goal - 90 days, 6 days/week. Going to the gym wasn't working because I would get 30min in and feel like I had done enough. But I could say "YEAH YEAH I WENT TO THE GYM TODAY". Oooooooooooooooook....the truth is, I wasn't even doing 25% of what I did on a daily basis with P90X. -
Its funny you say that about being happy just saying you went to the gym. Me and my buddy were talking about that one day. You see those people in there all the time. They are barely doing anything and you can tell they are just there to say they went. Then after a week, they quit and say the gym doesnt work and they cant lose weight.
Gym owners must love those people. -
Congrats OP, thinking about attempting something like this to get ready for my wedding which isnt til next summer. My job is labor intensive and when i started it i was 194 (im only 5'6) down to 168 right now but could use to lose a bit more and tone up. Would definately like to see the diet side of it if you got around to it. amazing what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.

1250 cals a day?
Wow I would be pissed. -
impressive, well done OP.
How did you determine 1250 calories? That sounds TINY. Especially with all the calories burned in the program wouldn't your maintenance be at least 2500 calories a day? -
Edited By: srfinsno May 12th, 2011 at 03:48 PMI did this for quite a while until I stepped back and was honest with myself about it. Having an open ended plan with no real end goal doesn't work for me and I know that now. P90X would be perfect for you J.Originally Posted by Jaybone2315

I didn't really calculate it based on what I 'needed'. I just looked at my diet plan (which I post a little later today Sheb) and it came out to that number. I know it is really really low, and with the workouts I was netting an absurdly low amount each day but it worked for me. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that but everyone is different in what their goals/needs are.Originally Posted by coolhandkev

I just got back from getting my body fat measured at Meredith College. Two measurements were taken: 7 pt caliper and a hydro test. The caliper came in at 15.0% and the hydro at 15.7%. I didn't get these measurements at the beginning of round 1 but they give you a weight/percentage estimate and at 197lbs I was estimated at 25%. To get down to 10% I will need to get to somewhere in the 165lb range. This is the range for guys when you start seeing your complete abs. That is my goal now. -
Im not sure what i lowered my calorie intake too, but i bet it was low as well. If i kept track, id probably be shocked to see what my net value was for a lot of my days early on.
Btw, how did u get ur fat percentage done? Id love to be able to do that so i could have a new goal to shoot for. Could a doctor just do this for me? -
I went to a local all girls college (boing) to have it done. Here is the link for their particular program: http://www.meredith.edu/nhhp/ so you could probably do some google search using keywords and likely find something around you. It cost $30 buck for two tests:
Caliper: Basically looks like an adjustable wrench. They pinch and clamp down on seven different parts of your body and measure the fat density at each place.
Hydro: You sit in this contraption (basically looks like a swing hanging from pvc pipe) in a pool. You take a deep breath and put your head underwater - your body is already submerged - and let out all of your air. Some weight measurement is taken comparing your density to that of the pool, etc, etc, blah blah and they come up with a percentage.
The caliper is said to be pretty inaccurate but it was within 0.7 of my hydro reading. -
Yea ive done the caliper readings in HS for wrestling. My senior year I was something ridiculous like 4%. Never did the hydro one tho but ive always heard its much more accurate.
I just didnt know where I could get that done on my own. -
Nice transformation man, keep it going.

I've tried about 3 times now to get on the P90x wagon and fall off after 2 weeks - 1 month. This has inspired me to get back on it, starting tomorrow of course because I'll be drinking for Game 7 tonight.
For the life of me I can't get through the 1.5 hour Yoga shit. I just can't stand it, am I alone in this or did you hate it also? -
Actually I skipped it all together and opted for Hot Yoga instead. 1.5 hrs, 26 poses in a 105deg room. There is a Bikram studio about a mile from my house so it was perfect. It always landed on Friday for me so it was a great way to end the work week and kick off the weekend. Check it out..sounds ghey but who cares what people think. Yoga is awesome.

I was open-minded when I tried because my brother and mother rave about Yoga. Maybe I need to get out of my family room to fully commit to the Yoga part. I shall check out this Hot Yoga you speak of.

Nice results man, way to hang through it, best of luck with the next set

Out of curiosity, OP how many pushups/pullups can you do today compared to day 1?
-
Edited By: srfinsno May 12th, 2011 at 09:22 PMThanks everyone for the positive feedback. Like Jay said in his post a few weeks ago...no matter how vain/narcissistic it sounds, it never gets old getting compliments from everyone including people you haven't seen in a long time.Originally Posted by coolhandkev

It's a little hard to answer your question CHK but I'll try..
Walking up to a pull up bar, no warm up and no plans to do anymore, I could probably put out 10 pull ups around the time I started the program. The first day of P90 is Chest and Back - a brutal pushup/pullup routine. At the end of my first day, I did around 200 pushups and 100 pullups but ALL were with one foot on a chair which makes it way easier. So throughout that hour, I probably averaged between 8-10 assisted pullups depending on the specific exercise.
Fast forward to the end of the program.. I can now do that same Chest and Back routine and put out 20-25 pull ups in each exercise throughout the hour UNassisted. People are really scared of pullups and their ability to do them, but that is how you truly build back muscle and get that "V" shape. Shit, you could probably do pushups and pullups, follow a good diet and be in fantastic shape.
Weeminer mentioned that my results were based solely on the calorie deficit. While he does have a point that, yes, that is how I got to the size I am now, I can tell you that I am so much harder (that's what she said) throughout my whole body. They use a term in P90 called "loose in the cage". That's what I felt like at the start - that I wasn't obese or anything but, yeah, I felt really freaking uncomfortable with myself.
Reason: because i go back and read my posts and see all the errors. and i'm obsessed with fixing them. -
weight loss...maybe. you'd be surprised how many calories you can shed doing the cardio workouts.

but you can clearly see that OP is way more cut right now than when he began...some of that is obv shedding weight, too, but it will definitely make you stronger.
I did it the first 3 times, then just skipped it.Originally Posted by MilBestDrnkr

I could actually tell that my flexibility had improved from only 3 sessions, but it just wasn't worth it for me. Shit was insanely hard tho.
I would use it as my full rest day, and normally go for like a 3 or 4 mile jog at some point.
