1. So I was on my way to class today when the following situation occurs: What your looking at:
First of all, thats the first time I used Paint in years. Visual aid was necessary because you wouldnt believe it if I just explained it lol. Anyways, at around 5pm I leave my complex heading to my friend place. I reach the red light at the end of the street and stop my car in the left turn lane, as I need to turn left. Well, as Im stopped and waiting for the light to turn, some girl turns right onto the road im on. Literally. She goes WAYYYYYYYYY Wide during her turn and runs head on right into me. CRASHHHHHHHHHH. Her airbag deploys, mine doesnt.. We get out and shes freaking out.

Heres where I need advice:
Cops come and write up the report. She gets a ticket for careless driving and we have to give the officer our licenses and insurance information. She gives the cop her insurance card, and he looks at it. The car is brand new.. temp license and everything. The card apparently is a few months old. She does not have her license on her. The cop asks her how she has an older insurance card than her car, and she says her mother transferred the info over. He writes down the information and writes his report out. He tells me to call Geico, give them all this info, and they should take care of everything. I shouldnt have to pay for a thing.

I call Geico and they take all the information and tell me they will make a report, and that I should call her insurance company (21st century) and file the claim through them- that way I dont have the $500 deductible. This sounds strange to me, being as this is my first time dealing with this kind of thing. I ask around and everyone tells me this is the norm.

I call her insurance company and they ask me for my name, my phone number, her name, and her insurance policy number. They tell me they will call me back with an agent in the area to get the rest of the report information. Again, after asking around, I discover this is the norm. Apparently they do this to talk to their client first etc. Well a couple hours go by and I get a call. The conversation goes like this..

Him: Mr Giles?
Me: Yes, how are you?
Him: Good, I have a report here saying you are attempting to file a claim?
Me: Thats correct
Him: With this policy number? Xxxxxxx
Me: Correct
Him: And against a Ms Xxx X XXX
ME: Correct
Him: Im sorry, those names nor policy numbers do not exist in our system. I suggest calling the cops or something. Sorry

At this point its 9pm and im out with friends, so I decide theres nothing I can do at the moment, and Ill just enjoy my night before dealing with the hassle tomorrow.

My question: Who should I contact? The police department? Geico? Am I going to get fucked here and be forced to pay $500 by Geico because she doesnt have insurance? Ive heard WAYYYY too many horror stories of insurance companies trying their best to fuck anyone they can. What do I do?

Thanks for any comments

Cliff Notes:
- Hit while waiting at a red light
- Cop made report. Not my fault. She got a ticket.
- My insurance company told me to go through her insurance company
- They claim the information she gave the cop was invalid
- IDK what to do at this point
2. I've never had to deal with this sort of thing, but I would definitely contact the police since they have all of her information and might know what the next step is...as for calling Geico, since the police report says you were not at fault maybe once they know that you can work something out....hopefully it works out for you gl.
