Anyone going to watch Joran van der Sloot's confession? I think it's going to air on ABC tonight. It was aired here yesterday, ratings were estimated at 7 million viewers which is rougly every adult in the country. It was interesting, to say the least.
-
Well he got set up with a hidden camera and confessed that she's dead and that the body was disposed in the ocean (supposedly by a friend of his). He didn't kill her though, she suddenly started shaking or something and then died. I think it's being aired in the US tonight.
-
^^^ He didn't kill her though? Spiking someone's drink with too much crap so you can rape her is murder. Got news for you.
-
Did you see the show? Nothing came up about him spiking her drink, so I wouldn't know.
-
fwiw this is pretty much what I always beleived to have happened, that is that she probably died of an overdose while with him but that he didnt kill her. **
Ive heard before of women dying while taking ecstasy and then being slipped something by some douchebag and that's pretty much what I always assumed to have happened. I guess it's nice for the family to get some closure over this, I can't imagine what they've been forced to deal with.
edit: I didnt see the show either so the spiking drink thing is something that I assumed as well and obv may not be correct.
** edit again: I mean that he didn't kill her intentionally. -
You don't dispose of someone's body that died of natural causes.
-
ranchgirl I mean this with the utmost respect, youre sfdense its amazing. She probably didn't die of natural causes but all that OP corrected you on was that joran has not admitted to slipping her anything.

Yeah maybe we should leave this topic until tomorrow, so everyone is a little more up to speed. Everybody here is talking about it though so I couldn't help posting it.
-
it'll be all over american news in a few hours anyway I'm sure
-
Ranchgirl,I refuse to argue with you without you knowing exactly what he confessed to and the other arguements presented in the show. Watch the show and then come back.
-
I read the hidden tape admission won't be sufficient evidence for a judge to put him away. That sucks.
I hope girls everywhere have learned something from this. Don't wander off with random guys while on vacation in foreign countries. -
CNN.com has a video up with a transcript of the confession
And yes that definitely sucks that the evidence will be inadmissible. However, Im sure the lawyers will still try to get it in and that is where the huge legal battle will be in this case.
That is, unless the police can get the kid to confess after being Mirandized (or whatever the equivalent is under Aruba law).
EDIT: For anyone wondering WHY this confession might be inadmissible here are a few reasons. BTW, I have NOT put any research into this but here are some possible issues.
1) Hidden camcorder could be considered an illegal search and therefore anything stemming from it (the confession) might be considered fruits.
2) Not given the equivalent of the Miranda warnings, assuming that whatever country the confession was made in has those.
3) Conflicts of Laws principles. Without getting into too much detail, the law is very complicated when it comes to which law controls in a situation like this. The confession was not made in Aruba but the murder trial most certainly would be held there. So the issue would be worded "Under which countries law should the legality of the confession be determined." -
IMO you guys are taking ranch girl out of context. She's not arguing with you guys. She is saying 'you don't ditch a body off in the ocean, if there is no fowl play on the part of the person who is ditching the body off', and therefore she thinks he spiked her drink or something along those lines. If his account of what happened is true, why would he get rid of the body? It doesn't add up. I agree.
-
I have personally met with Joran before. I met him 8 months before this happened. I went out with him and he is the type of guy that doesn;t need date rape.
-
right but for all we know she died after taking something that she took willingly. If whatever that was was illegal the guy could easily have freaked out and not have been thinking clearly. ranchgirl posted a hypothesis and when questioned about it she used terrible logic to try to prove why she was right, thats all im saying.
-
^^ hidden brag post i think...
-
^^^^ That's a really stupid comment. He doesn't need to date rape? Like you know him that well.I love it whenr people say that a certain person they know would never molest, kill, etc.
-
i'm embarrased. i've never heard of this story
-
level?
-
i hope so.
-
mayby i just forgot
-
Agreed, that comment is incredibly dumb. Rape has nothing to do with someone's inability to get some. The fact that a guy can pull tail so easily could make it that much more infuriating when a girl tells him NO.
Try reading up on it sometime. -
Also, I think it is extremely presumptuous to conclude that he isn't the kind of guy who needs to drug chicks just because you hung out with him ONE time EIGHT months prior to what happened in Aruba.
gg sample size -
Gotcha.
Im thinking its more likely guy ditches body because of foul play than guy ditches body because he was scared. But obviously that means nothing as far as real proof goes. Just an opinion. -
How long has this been, a few years right? Im sure you heard it, it was all over every piece of news everywhere.
-
Honestly, and this is going to sound terrible. I would probably be relieved if I were her relatives. I would think she is better off dead than some of the other scenarios.
-
I'm not sure about this but what you are saying applies to AMerican Law correct? I thought Dutch law covered Aruba. DO they have the same legal rules as the US does?
