I read he was forced into signing it because the Repubs had added some Veterans benefits to the bill. So if Obama didnt sign the bill he would look like he was denying Vietnam Vets benefits. Its a fucking bullshit bill tho and just opens a pandoras box for the future. This shit is getting out of hand.

I completely agree Steve. This bill can be abused to even more disturbing levels than Patriot Act. Dont know why any president would sign this.

I'm not a terrorist nor do I associate with people who have terrorist leanings or inclinations. I doubt very much this will impact me.

Well for one mistakes can and will be made. And two this opens the door for judges rulings and other laws to be made that can impact you. Agree or disagree?

I dislike when people ask a nuanced question then force only 2 choices. Sure it could open the door, I.E. police and judges deeming a drug dealer to have terrorist connections and holding them indefinitely. But any precedence set in those situations would be in relation to criminal activity, which I do not engage in or associate with people who do. So again, to me the individual, the chances it impacts me is negligible.

Isn't the foundation of conservatism the basis that people should have the right to follow their own individualistic pursuits? So if my individualistic pursuits are not being curtailed, what reason do I have to care that yours are? It may or may not be fair to you, but to me it's not a negative.

I think you are messing around here, but the reason it affects you is because it is another loss of individual rights and and when individuals lose rights it necessarily means the government gains power. It's analogous to some removing a single stone from the foundation of a building .Each stone removed weakens the foundation. Also, when you don't speak up for someone else who is losing a right or who may lose a right, there won't be anyone to speak up for you when it does directly affect you.

There is a principal at stake and it is being eroded. If you are an American citizen it affects you and everyone else negatively.

Niceguy: if you believe what you just put then why have the 4th amendment period? I mean you aren't doing anything wrong so why should it matter if the police want to cone into your house, hand cuff you, and search? They won't find anything so who cares right?
