need computer help (5$ on stars to who ever helps)

    ok, i have a laptop and the disk drive is broke.

    i have a external disk drive and i need to run the operation recovery disk because porn has fried my computer

    But when i insert the disk in the external drive and restart it, it will go strait to the normal windows stuff.

    When i try to load it when i am in windows this thing pops up telling me that there is more than one type of content on the disk, and gives me some options on what to do.

    i have no clue how to get this thing to run. please help. 5 bucks on stars to the first person that helps me, and makes it work.

    I am a computer guru. You could not have possibly been more vague and uninformative in your description of what's happening. If you want some help, you have to at least take responsibility for making notes about what exactly you are being offered as choices. I assume you are not booting off of your c:\ drive.

    You have to go into your boot seetings and select external drive as the 1st boot option. When you 1st turn on your computer ther should be a little messgae that says hit * * to select boot options hit what ever key it says to hit. On my Dell its f8

    ok, i am sorry for not being more infomative. I am clueless when it comes to this stuff, so i will try and make it better for you.

    I broke the disk drive on my laptop, so i can't insert the disk into it, close all the programs, and restart the computer like it says on the Operating System Disk.

    I have an external cd drive that plugs into my laptop threw a usb cable.

    When i put the Operating System Disk into the external cd drive a window pops up and its says
    Recovery11 (E:) at the top of the box
    then it says that "this disk or device contains more than one type of content.
    What do you want windows to do?

    then it offers the choices of

    copy pictures to a folder on my computer using microsoft scanner and camera wizard
    view pictures in media center using media center
    view a slideshow of the images using windows picture and fax viewer
    print the pictures using photo printing wizard
    copy piuctures and view them using picasa 2
    play media files using media center
    Play using windows media player
    open folder to view files using windows explorer
    take no action

    i have tryed to open it with windows media and it just shows some clips of paper flying

    I opened up the folder to view files and its just a bunch of files and i have no idea what to do with them, so i left them alone.

    Then i looked on the disk and it says to insert the disk into the computer, end all programs, restart the computer, then follow the on-screen instructions.

    so i insterted the disk, closed all the open windows, and restarted the laptop.

    It took me back to the screen where you have all of the users, and enter your pasword to get into windows.

    once i am in windows it is just like it has always been, and there is no instructions for me to do anything. its just like i restarted my computer.

    that is all i know. sorry for not being more imformative

    1. You say the disk drive is broke.
    Does this mean your hard drive does not operate? Does this mean that you cannot boot to Windows from the hard drive? Does this mean that your system does not even recognize that you have a hard drive? Can you boot to Windows in SAFE mode? Do you have a floppy drive? Do you have a floppy boot disk? Do you have a cd/dvd drive? Do you have a boot cd? What is this external drive you speak of? Is it USB? Is it Firewire?

    If Windows is recognizing the external drive, and it appears to be since it is offering you options, use Windows explorer and find the recovery program on the external drive. Run the program and it will restore your system to it's original state. Everything you've done since you bought it will be lost, so back up your important shit.

    i went to the boot menu and went to change it and it offered the options of
    DVD/CD ROM drive
    Removable Device
    Main Hard Drive
    Boot to LAN
    USB storage stick

    I tryed them but i can not see the bottom of the screen and i do not know if i am selecting the different boot option, or just exiting. I hit F 10 and it says to save and exit tho.

    When i use explorer and get to the E:\ it has a
    I386
    Pre Load
    folder.htt
    then lots of WIN511

    it will not let me run any of them by clicking on them.

    My hard drive (i guess that is place you put the disk?) is broke off, as in i had it opened to put in a disk and hit it on accident and broke the area where you put the disk off.
    I do not know if i can boot windows from the hard drive
    i do not know if my computer even recongnises the hard drive
    i do not know how to boot in safe mode
    no floppy drive
    no floppy boot disk
    no internal cd/dvd drive
    not sure what a boot cd is
    external drive plugs into the usb port as i stated in a previous post.
    do not know what firewire is.

    ^^^i know...i know, but its so hard not to.

    none of this is working, so i am taking it to someone who knows more than me.

    thanks ideas on how to fix it.
