  1. hey everyone, ive never posted here before, but here goes

im moving in with a buddy and we're trying to decide between two apartments....we have to decide by tomorrow so any help is appreciated

one is in a GREAT location, near movie theaters, bars, clubs, restaurants, subway, etc...but is pretty small...other than the bedrooms theres a pretty small living room and tiny kitchen and thats it

the other one is in a 'nice' area, but a 'bad' location for someone in their early 20's....its off the subway, not really close to anything much, and is in a mostly residential neighbourhood.......HOWEVER....it is WAY bigger...the small bedroom here is a bit bigger than the big one at the good location, the living room is bigger, kitchen is bigger, it has a balcony, and the building itself is nicer (indoor pool etc)

rent is literally exactly the same, and i have 24 hours to decide

    thanks

  2. how much shit do you plan on having? that would help with the size.

and do you guys have cars? sounds like the other is close to a subway, can't you ride the subway to go to the other party type things?
  3. we both have enough shit to fill the big one, but could cut it down if necessary to go to the small one

the bigger apartment isnt really close to a subway, its about a 15 minute bus ride to get to the subway....

i wont have a car until november ish, and my roommate doesnt have/want one. for the record he is 100% completely impartial

  4. hmmm be careful on the car. seems that when one roomie has a car the other one expects you to do more shit for them. they won't say so now, but seems to be the scenario for most people.

rly sounds like the smaller one might be best. but space is always nice cuz people seem to collect more shit as time goes on lol. and if you're both in school, the distance might be a good deterant to constant partys. id pick bigger, but im old and like the distance from the craziness since sometimes you need a break. plus i've always lived away from the city, but only by 20 min, so its something you get used to if you do pick the farther one
  5. For me being comfortable is important. I would probably take the bigger one just so you and your roommate aren't right on top of each other <insert gay joke>.

It might not be as optimal as for closeness to bars and shit like that but it could be better because you won't be as tempted to fuck around as much.
  6. Are there any other gay couples near either apartment? Then you guys could all get together and see musicals or play board games. Just something to think about.

    lol
  8. yeah thats what im thinking.....but the other problem is that the bigger one is 90 minute commute from school, and the smaller one is 45

    :(

  9. I strongly suggest you take the better location if you are the kind of people who like to go out and do things.

If you are the kind that enjoy being in your place a lot then take the bigger one.

Location in your 20s is key - I lived in a suburb area in Michigan with a car for a few years but had to drive to get to anything and everything. It seriously started to suck even though I had a sweet place with a bar and pool table. People don't want to make the trip to your place very often and you don't want to drink and drive, so you end up passing on a lot of stuff.

I miss living close to a city where I could walk out and just do whatever whenever.

A small place can be bad though, like I said, if you enjoy being at home a lot.
  10. well by that alone i'd pick the smaller one. thats a shitty commute
  11. any reason you are living 45min from school?

i'm with wowswift the 90min commute is awful, the smaller apt with 45min commute wins.
  12. thats just due to rush hour traffic and the fact that toronto public transit is so fucked up that the subway doesnt go to the biggest single campus in canada (york university, 70 000 students) and you have to take a bus there.
it would take me 20 min to get to the subway from the bad location, because there are only 3 legitimate subway lines in this massive city....30 min on the subway, then another 20 min on the bus (on a good day)
